WTB: Engine perches for a 4x4 with a 292 straight 6

I'm starting to wonder if a 4x4 with a 292 even existed! If any of you have the perches for a 292 in a 4x4 for sale, please let me know!

Thanks!

Re: WTB: Engine perches for a 4x4 with a 292 straight 6

I feel your frustration.

I was well into the resurrection of my 65 K10 and had already given away the V8 that was in it and rebuilt the trusty 292 that had powered my old 2wd for more than 20 years when I realized I had a major problem. Lots of sleepless nights, but finally found BLK65K10 on this forum who had LOTS of 4x4 parts for sale, and sold me one for a very reasonable price. Don’t know if he’s still around, but might be worth sending out a PM

As you probably know, the driver side one you already have works with any engine, it’s just the pass side you need. While I don’t have one to offer, if pictures or measurements would help, just let me know.

Good luck with the search. They really are out there, and you may just find a misguided soul who wants to swap his 292 for an 8 and you can trade. Well worth the trouble, as there is nothing quite like that smooth big 6 low end torque when taking one of these old trucks off road

I would post an add on the 67-72 section, I believe those frames are the same and the 292 was common on those trucks.

Quite sure the 66 4wd frame I have has the perch. Going to my place today.

I'm converting a 2wd to a 4x4, so I don't have any mounts.

That’s an interesting adaptor on the passenger side. Looks like someone tried to bolt up a V8. Any idea what the story was?

Re: WTB: Engine perches for a 4x4 with a 292 straight 6

This Canadian built 66 GMC 4WD frame was across the road from where I worked. Everything had been stripped. Was used as a tow truck at one time. They hed installed 3/8" plate each side of the rear if the frame in an attempt to reinforce it. I have no other history than that. Ironic since I had purchased the same mount for my 4wd 292 then a year later end up with this frame.

Sorry if I’m high jacking this thread, as I don’t want to interfere with Backpayne finding his parts.

I thought GMC’s only came with a V6 and weren’t even offered with a 292. Is that a Canadian thing? Or did the V6 use the 292 mount also? I’m still trying to learn as much as I can about these old trucks, especially the 4x4’s

Canadian built GMC's used Chevrolet drivetrains. The population of Canada is so much smaller than the U.S. the single manufacturing plant in Oshawa Ontario found it made more sense to just label a Chevrolet motor with a GMC decal . You could still get the V6 option but the truck would be imported from the U.S.
