Installing bed without floor

Trying to put my truck together instead of having parts/panels everywhere. I don't have the wood flooring yet for my truck. Will the bed sides/panels still mount to the frame ok without any bed wood being installed? I've never pieced a bed together, so not sure.

Re: Installing bed without floor

Wouldn’t be a problem . The bed will sit 3/4 of an inch lower without the wood .

Re: Installing bed without floor

I usually cut small scrap pieces of either the old bed wood, or something the same thickness, cutoff of your new bedwood or something.

Drill the hole for the bolt in the bedside, slip it on top of the cross sill where it would be positioned and kinda give yourself a spacer temporarily

Re: Installing bed without floor

You could put a 4 x 8' sheet of 3/4 plywood down, so you'd have a workable bed surface, until your planking goes in.

Longbed a 4x8 will be one inch short . All my wood is cut to 97” lengths but for a temp solution it would work

I have a shortbed, so I cut off 20-something inches. Also a gap on one side of about 1-1/2'' that I shape a 1 x 3 to fill. When the plywood's peeling layers, or soaked in black oil, or warping, I just get a fresh sheet.
An oak-planked back deck is beautiful, but I'd have to keep a sheet of plywood on top if I still used it as a Truck. Which I do. If I wanted a show car, I buy a Dusenberg or Maserati.
