Blower resistor plug wire melted/HOT! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I noticed when I was cleaning the engine compartment that the plug for the Blower resistor on the evaporator box got Hot. The Dark blue wire has some brown discoloration to it right were it goes into the plug itself. With the blower running the plug & resistor portion gets real Hot. I checked the fuse & it had a 25amp I think it calls for a 20. I stuck a 15 in it until I can get to the parts store. It still gets really Hot. I'm going to have to replace the plug, the plastic got to Hot & broke off showing the terminals. Is the resistor bad?

Anyone have any clues? Is maybe the Blower motor bad?

That is how the resistor lower voltage - it turns it into heat. Some heat is perfectly normal. Melting things is not. When it gets that hot it needs to be replaced.

blower motor bad. when not working right, draws too many amps to run, wires get hot. could be bad brushes, whatever. replace motor, resistor too, and any toasted wires, you'll be fine..
