Re: GMC motorhomes
My middle son (Seth) purchased a 1975 GMC motorhome and is currently restoring it. Really good quality motorhome, incredible construction and design.

Re: GMC motorhomes
I have always been fascinated by these motorhomes and now has me doing more research on them. I have a 91 Winnebago, but one of these would be really cool to restore.

Re: GMC motorhomes
You know everybody thinks of the movie Stripes when they see one of these honestly, I've never seen that movie, guess I'll have to lol. But here's a TransMode that was a supporting vehicle in the 96 blockbuster hit Twister as a mobile weather station. It's got a custom drivers door conversion on it. And here's what it looks like in the film as well as what it looks like as of 2018, man have the caretakers really let it go to pot.

Re: GMC motorhomes
Here is a link to info on my 1978 Kingsley.
https://www.gmcmotorhome.org/threads...kingsley.1108/ At one time I tried convincing the admin to create a section dedicated to these RVs http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=746180 But with no luck .

I saw one of these last week going down the road by my house in Colfax. Definitely a head turner.

Re: GMC motorhomes
I'm sure there are better examples out there with less miles on them but this thread made me remember my old Hot Wheels GMC Palm Beach Motor Home.

Re: GMC motorhomes
My dad borrowed his friend's one time to take the family on a short trip. I remember being shocked, as a callow teenager, by how much money was required just to fill the tank, which probably held a hundred gallons.
What I recall most, though, was how smoothly it went down the road. I thought it was a pretty cool unit.

Re: GMC motorhomes
I thought I'd revive this thread. Here's a mobile restaurant for Runza (a Nebraska based chain that sell sandwiches of the same name) made of bread cabbage onions and sometimes Cheese.

Re: GMC motorhomes
My mother worked for Wildparks of America back in the early ‘70s. They owned a couple resorts where people leased or owned lots in a gated rv park here on the east coast, two in va. Anyway, they had one as a “company vehicle” that we’d use occasionally. I’ll never for get the feeling of that airbag ride heading down interstate 95, or sitting in the big back window getting the truckers to honk their horns.
They also bought a new customized van every year that she’d drive home every now and then. I’m talking the murals, bubble windows, themed interior, etc. I used love riding in them. Hard to find a “shaggin waggon” any more. |

Re: GMC motorhomes
At the Carlisle truck show there is a pretty big gathering of custom vans. It's neat to see them.
I'm doing a job just over the state line in PA. I pass by a GMC Motorhome that is kept under a steel canopy. They've had it for quite a few years

Re: GMC motorhomes
I looked up Runza Sandwiches. What a great idea you don't see anyone do... except them. It's like a Stromboli but those are pizza dough and that type of fillings.

Re: GMC motorhomes
What plant in Pontiac were the GMC motorhomes built in? Someone one told me they were built in the coach plant with the buses.

Re: GMC motorhomes
I was at a car show the other day. A guy had one set up in the parking lot. I made the comment to a few people that those things are awesome. The owner was inside and heard me. He invited us in to check it out and showed us all the cool little tricks his camper has. He's in the process of restoring it and I'd say he's 90% there. Him and his family use it for day trips now and will be traveling all over the place when it's done.
