To shorten the handle's travel you would have to change ratio of the shift arms.
The arm on the transmission has a set an not changable <V> angle change front to rear. Moving the spot where the shift rod goes in the arm in turn changes the distance the shift arm on the transmission moves plus changes the distance the shift knob moves. That is how the short throw shifters for T-5 trans Works, they move the piviot point and the lever below the pivot point is longer so it's movement is is longer compared to the movement of the shift knob.
