Question Gas tank grommets, question

We seem to have trouble with the life of gas tank grommets. The last one that I bought only lasted 6 months before ozone destroyed it. The Chevy Dealer has told me that the GM grommets are not available anymore.

Does anyone know of a good repop grommet?

I don't know but wanted to agree with you! Mine was loaded with small cracks within 6 months or so! I got mine from Chevyduty.

Funny thing, I looked at the one on the truck in my other thread (Enough to make a grown truck guy cry) and that one looks original with no cracks at all! That means the original 36 year old grommet is still going strong.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

bobs409,

I have (3) old originals that are still good, but I need a couple more and I don't know what to buy. I got the grommets that went bad from chevy Duty, also.

They are both still available from GM
3886792 gets you a 2" fuel neck grommet, & part #3978799 gets you a 1 1/2" fuel neck grommet. Just order the part # you need.

I checked with the Chevy dealer and the PN's are good with them.

Thanks GMC Paul!

Now I just need to know the neck size of the tanks.

If you soap them and don't tear them in the process they seem to hold up very well.

Jim

PS: I got my grommets today that I ordered last week from the Chevy dealer and they look great.
