no brake lights ? and another brake ?
I have a 67 swb that I had the bed off, for a few weeks, when I put it back on (all painted and lookin killer!) the brake lights don't work, wireing is good ,brake switch is good ,I bypassed it and still nothing,I am not getting any power to the brake wire anywhere underneath the truck, where else can I look? Now my other problem not related to the brake lights is when I mash down the brakes they will not lock up, they stop good just kinda slow, I have power disc brakes on a 71 frame with a 72 power brake setup off of a 72 4x4, do I need a different portioning valve ? or what else could be the proiblem. My truck is a combo of three trucks ,67 LB which I put onto a 71 SB frame that had 5 lug, brakes and power steering, 72 1/2 ton 4x4 which I took the power brake setup and 383 stroker motor. Its finally almost completely finished ! Thanks for the help

Try wigling the turn signal with your foot on the brake. (Have an assistant looking at the lights) A worn out turn signal will do this.

You can also check for brake light power under the dash. follow your brake wire to the fire wall and there will be a plug chack and see if that came lose, if not unplug it and check for power

New paint maybe causing a no ground-run wire from frame to bare spot on bed and then check your lights.

Sounds to me like you may have a blown fuse. If you do, and it blows again, you may have pinched wires possibly from the bed R&R.
I did that once when I R&R'd a rear bumper. I caught the wires in the bracket.

Never thought to ask...do the tail lights work, how about the turn signals?

Tailights work, turn signal lever moved it around with no change, can't find any bad fuses. I am not getting power to the brake line wire, the other three wires in the harness have power.I have no idea whats going with it ? keep looking I guess

Which wire are you checking for voltage? It should be the dark green and the yellow. (I say this becouse you said wire and not wires)

I was just checking the yellow to see if there was any power going thru it, isn't the dark green a blinker ? Tailights and blinkers work fine, do you think that maybe the tailight housing is not getting a good ground because of new paint ? I need to remove it and check, wouldn't I still have power thru the wire up to that point though ?

if your turn and taillights work tehn you have a good ground. It sounds like your brake light indicator switch is bad. It is located on the brake arm in the cab up by the firewall I know somebody on this forum had a picture of it I don't.

already bypassed that ,had power to it but bypassed it and still no lights.

HHMMMMMM... the only other thing I can think of is that on both bulbs in the taillight housing one of the fillements went out, causing there to be no brake light??? I don't know just a wild guess

Turn signal switch.
The yellow wire is the bright filliment one one side, the Dark Green is the bright filliment on the other side, brown is dim filliment, and light green is back up lights. That is all there is in your tail light harness. The brake light power goes through the yellow and dark green wires. In order to do this and function properly, tyhe brake light power has to go to the turn signal switch, and depending on the position of the switch, it will send brake and left flash...brake and right flash...or just brake lights. If the brake light power did not go through the turn signal switch, then if you had your blinker on and hit the brake, the light would not blink becouse there would already be power there from the brake light switch. |

Ok heres the deal, no power for brake lights anywhere from the firewall back, I have power at the brake switch but when I bypass the switch I still have nothing. Help !

I have a similar problem. After getting truck back from paint /body shop, my taillights do not work. My signal / brake lights are good, but no taillights. They worked fine when truck went into the shop. I am getting pissed as well. Tryed sanding down paint behind the housings of the taillight, and they still don't work!!!

Mountian man, you need to folow the brown wire from the plug on the firewall (by the throttle lever or cable) and follow it down the frame back to the bed.
Actually, start at the bed and work your way up. You'll probably find it pinched or sevored back there. |
