What do you guys think of the Edelbrock #1906 AVS2?
My 71 has an older Holley that I spent too much to rebuild, but in spite of the money spent, it's never run quite right. (it bogs and goes when you get on it)
I've got an opportunity to buy an Edelbrock #1906 AVS2 for cheap, but don't know much about it. The 71 has a 350 with headers, Edelbrock intake, 1.5 rockers, 700R4, etc... or I could even look at using it on my 67 with a 283 (headers, intake, exhaust), if it's not too big. (can I run smaller jets to better suit the 283?) I can pick up the new carb for like 200 bucks, NIB, so I feel like that's too good a deal to pass up. Thoughts? Advice? |

I like my AVS2. The tuning kit is about 70 bucks and provides a good selection of rods jets and springs. Changing the rods is a 5 minute job and all I really needed to get it dialed in.
Review the Manuel. It will show which parts are included in the kit. Not all listed adjustment points are in the kit so don't just buy the kit before you decide what adjustment you want to target. |

I replaced my 1406 with the 1906 this spring and it has been a nice upgrade. The 1406 was not running great even after a thorough cleaning and rod/spring/jet adjustment. The 1906 out of the box ran much better and with a little tweaking is setup perfect right now for my 402 BBC.

I have purchased 2 1906s for 2 different mostly stock 350s. Both worked great right out of the box and no problems down the road.
I would check all the jets, rods, and springs on the used 1906 and put everything back to factory. You can never predict what a po might have changed. If you find the need to adjust it just change 1 thing at a time and road test. The calibration kit will come in handy when trying to make changes. Download the tuning book. It has the jet/rod combination you need to go richer or leaner. Last edited by Hugh in NC; 11-08-2023 at 09:58 PM. |

I have the 1905 AVS2 (manual choke) and love it. BIG improvement over my 1405. Quick starts when hot or cold, great throttle response and easy to tune. I don't use the choke and have it wired off. I also recommend the tuning book/chart and calibration kit, but it may run well with the jets and rods it is shipped with. Edelbrock carbs like 4-5lbs of fuel pressure, so I installed a fuel regulator which really helped.

I also have a fire extinguisher under the seat, but don't want it to come to that. What regulator did you wind up using?
