GM was at their zenith circa 1972. I bet their shareholders wished they had the same market share now as they did when that Suburban was brand new.

GM market share in 1972 was roughly 52%

GM LLC market share currently is 17%, or a third of what it was in those great years.

Years of building crap caught up with them.
I have to agree. I have always driven a Chevy truck, and bought a few new ones over the years, but sadly I am fairly sure I have bought my last new truck over 10 years ago. Touching commercial though.

I have two late model GM trucks that I bought brand new, and they have been excellent. However, I have seen some troubling trends post c-19 that would dissuade me from buying any new vehicle. It's not just the poor build quality. It's also some poor quality parts, such as valve lifters.

I have a 2011 1/2 ton I purchased new and it has never been in a shop, and it has roughly 70K on it. But, I believe the only reason the engine might last is because I put a Range AFM disabler on it early in life. Hindsight is 20/20, should have located a truck with a 6.2, as those did not yet include the worthless AFM (beside the obvious reason to go with a 6.2). Fingers crossed that the Range device saves it, as I have heard horror stories. With that turned off, it runs much better, and no fuel mileage difference. Probably getting a bit off topic on this thread I guess.
