Quadrajet Rebuild Kits

Carburetor number - 17084226 - 1534 HCD

What brand has better quality over the other and how complete are the kits. I would have used the search feature to try and help my question, but that isn't available to use right now. Here are some of the manufactures that I have found so far.

GP Sorensen
Niehoff Ignition
Borg Warner

From what I remember I need a rebuild kit and a new float. I going to get some Berryman's Chem-dip to soak the carburetor in. I have a small air compressor with a rubber tip blow tool. I have the torx bits and everything I need that I can think of as far as tools to rebuild it.

What type of epoxy is good to use to seal the plugs on the underside of the middle body. Im not sure how the epoxy and gas would cause problems.

It would be nice to buy a new quadrajet but I dont have that kind of money right now. So Im going to see what I can with the quadrajet over the 1406. I like the 1406 but I cant pass e check with it. It runs fine but I am way over the HC limit and little on the CO. I have decided its either the carb or the catalytic convertors, they aren't that old 3 years or so but they are catcos.

I use the GP Sorenson kits. Never had a problem with them. Very complete. Easy instructions.
I am pretty good with Quadrajet rebuilds, let me know if you need help.

I guess I've used just about every rebuild kit there is, from a expensive Edelbrock kit to the GP Sorensen kits. I can't tell any difference in any of them, except for price. Kits won't come with floats. You will need to buy this seperate. The Berrymans is the best stuff there is for cleaning the carb. Just don't put any rubber or soft parts in that you will need later, only metal parts. Don't put your hands in it either. Rinse everything before you blow it out. For the well plugs use JB Weld.

I just had to put a float in mine 8.99 for a Brass one .

You know how to check a stock type float right?

Put it on a concrete floor and then stomp your foot on it if it leaves a wet spot on the concrete it was bad.

I think Im going to have to get another carb for parts

Trying to get tamper proof torxs screws out four of the heads snapped off. I didn't think it would be so easy for that to happen. I need the primary throttle shaft now (that isn't messed up). Its defiantly a lot harder than the 1406 to rebuild, Its also my first time for a quadrajet rebuild so that might have something to do with it.

Carb dip works good but you cant really fit anything down in it like the body or anything. That's why I started to think if I took the throttle shafts out it would slide in but I was wrong. I ended up pouring it in a metal pot that had more room so I could actually use it like I wanted to. It was in a small like paint can for like 15.00 it was all I seen there. Off to see what is going to mess up next

I use GP Sorenson (sp?) kits for all of my quadrajets. Can't beat the price and they are pretty complete. For sealing the well plugs, I use an epoxy called MT-13. I have also used JBWeld or PC-7, but I'm told this is the best stuff available. It's pretty pricey ($19.99 for the epoxy and hardener) but a little goes a LONG way. Well Plug Epoxy

Those "Berryman" one gallon cans are only meant for dipping small parts and/or small carbs. I have a 2 or 3 gallon "Mac" brand carb dipping can w/basket. The original Mac cleaning solvent is LONG gone, but I just replace it with Berryman refils. The entire carb body will fit in the Mac pails. I got the Mac pail at NAPA.

I have a two gallon Container of berrymans And eventually if i ever get into building that many carbs a large air agaitated 7 gallon steel can with a sealed lid and clamp.
