Don't know how close you are to Sterling Heights, MI, but Warhoops had a '68 C30 with that rear end in it not too long ago.

I'm curious, -whats the difference between a 3/4 rear and a 1 ton rear? I'd thought they were the same.

The HO72 has slightly beefier external ribs & an adjustable ring gear thrust pad.

That's it.

And the one ton axle never had coil spring provisions.
I would recomend a later axle out of something else....the parts for these rears are gettin hard to find, and drums are pretty much non-existant.

I don't no the specifics just that its big but I have an 8-lug rear in my 72 GMC 1-ton dually I'll have to do some research on the message boards to see the value. I'm in Pittsburg, PA. So it looks like your location is going to be a deciding factor since these are huge rear ends and I would hate to see the shipping cost. If your going for an origional restoration I guess this is what you need. If I were fixing up my one ton I would personally look for a rear end from a newer truck and get a little better gears since I was running some serious RPM when I drove mine on the interstate at 65 MPH. Use the new rear end with the new more available leaf springs. Just have to mount the new leaf spring brackets in place of the old. But as I said I have one of the old ones here in PA I'm willing to seperate with. Trades for parts for my 1/2 ton GMC would be a possible solution if cash is not readily available.

There is a 72 one ton at a junk yard near me that has the original rear end... if those drums are getting hard to find, maybe I need to grab them ( I already got the drive shafts),
