i have two 55-59 chevy trucks and both have the vin stamped in the left frame rail just in front of the steering box.

i checked the one i just bought carefully because the title had a 56 vin and the cab a 58 vin plate. i made sure the frame vin matched the title vin before handing over the money. i didnt need to sand just wiped with my spit moistened thumb, numbers were right there. I suspected a cab swap because it has a 56 front clip and bumper and those dont fit well on a 58 frame without some work.

I will put up a pic of the one here at the house tomorrow.
