Re: 1971 gmc
Yes with no issue at all, assuming all systems are functioning normally. Trailer brake would be advisable since we are use to the more modern bake systems on today's cars. The trailer brake will help a lot. If you do not have a brake controller, I recomend the Curt echo blue tooth unit. Uses modern gyros. Setup and fine tune on your smart phone. I towed a trailer and race car about 6500 lbs with no issue many years.

Re: 1971 gmc
Only 2k, no problem. Recommend trailer brake controller and 6 ply rear tires

Re: 1971 gmc
Ok I got 10 ply tires all around My hitch says 1000 lbs tongue weight 500 . But I pulled a 6 x 12 uhaul empty weight is 1,920 lbs . Hold it was 2k atleast... No trailer brakes flat driving ... If my hitch info reads that im confused how did I get away with towing that much directly on the receiver ball with no problem

Re: 1971 gmc
Just because it didn't snap off doesn't mean it didn't potentially sustain damage. The hitch is designed with a safety margin, but if you hit a bad stretch of road, things could get ugly...
