Thanks guys

My order came in from Rock Auto today. Ordered an ACC rubber mat and a carb rebuild kit. Glad I ordered the right mat. THis one goes all the way back to the tank and way up into the dash. It looks like I will have plenty of trimming to do but appears to be nice quality.

I forgot to order my 5 gallon bucket of patience for the carb kit though I usually have less than good luck with small parts repair. So far going pretty good but had to post a question in the engine forum about a part that i think should be in there that is not. Will wait till I get some smarter people than I before finishing it up, but it definitely needed pulled apart. I am surprised it ran at all.

Re: 69 shop truck

Never did learn how to post video here but I got the carb rebuilt, reinstalled and the truck is running pretty good now. Idles on its own and is pretty responsive on the throttle. I may end up converting to cable and get rid of the rod. It feels like it has a sticky spot. Also had a local guy respond to my FB ad looking for a bed and drivers door. He lives about 3 miles from me as the crow flies but have to drive 20-25 miles to get to him because of the river. He said he had a 72 with a bad rear end and did not know if I would be interested in it for parts. It won't be a parts truck but it did come home with me.

Re: 69 shop truck

The rear end was completely out of it and has been sitting on jackstands in his driveway for several years. sp long in fact that the stands had sunk into the blacktop (his wife was real happy about that but not as happy as seeing me load it up ) I went and looked at it in person last week but he could not find the title at the time. He fast tracked one from the DMV and I met back with him this morning. I did not have a 5 lug rear already pulled but had a 6 lug one sitting here and a couple tires. Jack, more stands couple wheel dollies and the dewalt impact made quick work getting it rolling. Took about an hour and 40 minutes from start to having it loaded on the trailer. There was a cars & coffee going on about a mile away so stopped in on my buddy and showed him my find. Have not taken a super close look at it but appears OG paint. I even have a good hood the right color and a nice grill. Rust is minimal. Here is a picture of the pinion that was sitting with the axle.
Still had brand new drums, Shoes and seals sitting on the front seat.

Now back to our regularly scheduled red and white programming

I know even less about Utube and don't think I even want to. Spend too much time on the puter now and every time I go on utube I get strung out. I might have been looking for a video of a carb rebuild and before you know it I am sitting watching giraffe's playing badminton

Sorry Mark, but it takes hours of forwarding thru next suggested clips to come up with some of the stuff I see on there. It is just amazing the stuff that is posted as well as how it gets associated with the original search. But if I ever do come across it again I will be sure to send you the link

Re: 69 shop truck

Got the jute pad, rubber mat, seatbelts, gas tank and seat back in today. I forgot to redrill and tap the rear cab supports to the correct bolt size until after I had the gas tank in. I will do it in a vise if ever needed again. I ended up on my back under the truck drilling and tapping....not fun, but done. New rubber on the gas tank too. This new seat had the lowering brackets on it and I was going to use them to give me a little more room but the seat hits the gas tank before going back far enough to bolt it down. I guess they only work if you relocate the tank. I just put factory brackets back on instead. Still have to go thru my huge pile of gaskets and see if I have any door gaskets for a pickup. need to put them on and the new stainless sill plates I acquired then I am going to call the interior done.

I am going to have to come up with a bracket to hold a manual choke cable or figure out what was supposed to be on the choke shaft on the carb for the rod that goes down to the coil spring on the intake. I need to search for a clear picture of an original setup.

Re: 69 shop truck

Man this thing was giving me a fit. I thought I had all the bugs worked out on the engine side of things. Had it running great off the gas can. Got the choke all hooked up and decided to take it out for a spin down the lane. Fired it up pulled about 75 feet out into the parking lot and it just died. Would crank over but nothing else. got pissed, threw a few things, made up a few new colorful words, grabbed the bobcat, pushed it back in the shop and quit for the day. 98* and swamp ass humidity was no time to be messing around with it. We had a front come thru last night and dropped the temps considerably so I figured I should take a look while it was cooler. I knew it ran decent off the can and I had only fired it up briefly since hooking it back up to the tank behind the seat. I installed a new pickup tube in the tank while I had it out bc the old one was missing the sock. I was able to slide the seat far enough forward and using my stubby wrenches I unhooked the tank line and hosed it back into the gas can. No change in issue. Hmmm, ok It has all new rubber hoses as well as new AC Delco fuel pump, I guess that went bad. I look down and noticed the rubber hose from frame to pump looked like it was a little kinked so I got out my patented kink fixer and whadaya know it is back running just fine. Hooked the line back to the tank to make sure no further issue and all seems good to go. Trying to decide if I am gonna leave the kink fixer or figure out the proper fix With the fixer still attached I actually made her 1st trip around the block without having to walk back. I am considering bending a pc of steel fuel line in a 180* and using 2 shorter pcs of connecting hose for the final fix. I looked at a couple of the other trucks sitting here and they all seem to have this amount of hose on them. Not sure if making it a lot shorter would keep it from kinking.

Been unable to find a better bed locally and decided against the utility so gonna patch the floor in this one and slide the plastic bed liner in it that I got a week or so ago. It is never gonna be perfect anyway I just want it a bit more solid. Got all new bolts coming from McMaster and have some better inner tubs here so maybe get this thing wrapped up in the next week and get tags & insurance on it.

Same situation I just bent a wire to the angle of the dangle then bent some 3/8" fuel line to match stuck it in the brake flaring tool to put a bubble on each end....Problem solved!
