any a/c techs here?

All stock 1991 Chevy 1500
350 engine
88,000 actual miles
the R4 compressor was replaced maybe 8 years ago and converted to R134a at that time by someone else

The ac has been working just fine until last week when refrigerant spewed out of the pressure relief valve on the back of the compressor several times while running. It continued to cool fine until it bled off enough to make the compressor cycle quickly. I replaced that relief valve and recharged the system. Again working fine yesterday then this morning with gauges hooked up, within 4 minutes of cold startup the high side pressure shot up to over 350 psi then compressor locked up and began burning the belt up. I shut it off and the compressor was not locked up. Fully charged system.
While I was replacing the relief valve I took that opportunity to pull the hoses off the compressor to have a look for signs of compressor death. They were clean.
When it was running I noticed the high pressure line from condensor to the evaporator was cool and sweating and the accumulator wasn't as cold as I thought it should be. I am of the opinion there is a blockage that has occurred. But where? Where in the line is the orifice tube? Am I on the right track here?

Yep that’s exactly where I would start Boog. How noisy is the compressor when it’s running.

Re: any a/c techs here?

Good morning Tyler.
The thing is the compressor sounds just fine. It runs quiet and it obviously builds pressure good. Friday it charged up just fine and I ran it about an hour or so and it was cooling fine. Saturday I started it up and like I said in about 4 minutes without warning the compressor locked up and the belt screeching began. I ran around and turned the truck off then back under the hood to check the gauges real quick and the high side was coming down from over 350 psi. If the compressor is coming apart it doesn't look like it in the ports or the hoses. The static equalised pressure is around 98 psi. The high pressure hard line from the condenser back to the evaporator is supposed to be hot IIRC but right now that line is cold and sweaty when running, so does that indicate a blockage in the condenser? I looked for icing on the lines for a blockage but did not find any. I have not restarted it since. Crazy how it was running fine then it just snapped into lockup. The gauges were reading about 35 and 175 at the time.
And where is the orifice tube located on the 91?
