Steering box: replace ot rebuild

The steering box in my 72 seem to be leaking and has some play in it as well. So my question is should I replace it or rebuild it?? How hard are these to rebuild? Keep in my my truck is my weekend driver. Not a show truck by any means but I try to keep it safe. Thanks for the help

I rebuilt a power steering box from a 71 c10 to use on my 66. It was a first for me but was rather simple and a lot cheaper than a new one. It was cheap enough that even if I did mess it up it wasn't that big of a deal. Theres a couple good videos on YouTube covering the process to show what you'll be getting into. No special tools are needed. I'll have to dig in my summit history to see what the kit cost if you'd be interested

This was the kit I used. I paid $58 for it about 6 months ago but it's still reasonable. Funny how prices fluctuate. This went up while the inner fenders I bought are now $25 cheaper

Re: Steering box: replace ot rebuild

Just a thought, generally every time I thought my steering box was bad it was something else worn out in the steering. When they are leaking it is usually on the input side and you can buy a reseal kit for $12 and do it on the truck in about an hour.
