Real nice truck . But I don’t get the idea that just because a vehicle was owned by someone famous it’s worth more.

People pay thousands for purses and such because they have a name on them. No different IMO.

I believe it's the first Blazer to make the BAT Premium ranks.

This 1970 Blazer, provenance excluded from this conversation, has a lot of interesting details which could be a cause of concern:
  • rear axle brake lines and rear drum backing plates are 1971 style. 1970 did not have the coiled armor and the brake hose orientation is different
  • rear seat material pattern is 1971/72
  • passengers seat lap belt retractor location is 1971/72, as is the passengers seat latch location
  • rear interior bedside trim and rear floor carpet strips are MIA
  • carpeted rear wheel tubs
  • 1971/72 OSRV mirrors
  • what's up with that fuel neck?
  • The rear gravel shields are mounted way too inboard
  • rear backup lenses 1971/72 design
  • painted transfer case lever
  • Missing 1970 only TCS relay mounted to the firewall. No holes are present.
  • It has been converted to cable actuated throttle. 1970 used the crappy rod throttle.

Obviously, this rig has been taken apart at least once, and redone. Not a lot of 1970 Blazer still there.

People pay more for a Cadillac than a Chevy too but to say they are the same just the name is different is disingenuous at best

. But if you put this truck next to an any other restored Blazer they look drive and feel exactly the same .

I bought an Avanti from Sydney Poitier he had a house in Pleasantville NY. Car was no different than any other Avanti . It’s all hype in my opinion just like actors stating their opinions in politics it’s irrelevant. People idolizing them makes no sense to me .

Glad you brought the old thread up about the member that owned / Owns this currently?

They changed to a Jimmy grill for more lights because it was a chase/tow rig for his baja team.
I thought this was an interesting change.
Most would just put KC lights on a Push bar.

Do you think the Mona Lisa would be so admired without Leonardo’s name on it ?

Yes . And to compare a work of timeless art to a truck is a stretch at best

I’m not being an ass but the whole star owned thing making it worth more is lost on me.

Re: McQueen K5 on BAT

1970CSTBlazer thanks for posting. I was looking at the pictures and picked up on a couple of those things.

I kind of get the star power inflating the price, but not for me.

Here's the link that you posted again, in case people missed it - https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=526126

Seems gas filler was the same back then?

Re: McQueen K5 on BAT

A thing is a thing is a thing.

The worth of anything is defined by what someone is ready, willing, and able to pay for it.

If that “thing” happened to belong to someone very famous, not just for their work, but for their hobby, well, there are folks willing to pay that extra premium.

Can you honestly say if you owned it, and were selling it, that you wouldn’t push the McQeen history? Would you simply offer it for a “fair” price?

Point is, there is a ton of stuff that has been messed with, other than the obvious front clip swap, and the body color change.

Re: McQueen K5 on BAT

This thread is a little outta touch with regard to the whole "this isn't work the $$$" argument.

What I mean is, 98% of muscle cars and classic trucks cost more than they're worth.
Sure this truck has been changed, repainted, and owned by a dead guy who doesn't matter.
Sure it sold for too much...
That's just the way it is.

An L88 C3 Corvette is supposedly worth $500k.
....Malarkey. You could build a faster 1969 Corvette with simple parts off eBay for $20k. It'd blow the doors off any L88 six ways from sunday.

This entire hobby is out of whack and overblown. This one truck can't be such a surprise, can it?

I mean, has anyone looked at the Facebook thread Wikid postings of Blazers for the last 5-6 years.

Nutz-o prices for junk.
I don't like overhyping stuff or overpricing stuff, but that's just a part of classic car hobbying.

Re: McQueen K5 on BAT

The "Bullitt" Mustang was a rusted out, dented piece of junk when last sold.

$3.74 million
The 1968 Ford Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the legendary chase scene in the movie “Bullitt” sold on Friday for $3.74 million. “It's a record auction price for any Mustang ever sold,” said Dana Mecum, the principal of the auction house, Mecum Auctions, that sold the car.

Jan 12, 2020

Special vehicles that have a place in our cultural history are one thing.

I'm more bothered by the prices of old vehicle that were manufactured by the hundreds of thousands and have somehow acquired rare collector car status and ridiculous prices.

Non of these old cars have anything to do with a "Hobby". Anything and everything about these old vehicles is investor driven. Even used parts are influenced by investor mentality.

Barrett Jackson, Meccum and even BAT have destroyed what some people used to call a Hobby. Car Auctions have introduced investors to the market and old collector cars have just become part of their investment portfolio.

Re: McQueen K5 on BAT

^^^Ya know Richard, I'm fairly young, and I have been wondering.....In 40-50 years from now when people don't know who all these famous people are, whatsoever. ...When people don't know the significance of a HEMI Cuda convertable, when driving these cars is nearly impossible or not allowed, will they carry value?

My bet is no way. I bet in 40-50 years from now a 1-of-2 HEMI vert Cuda that is today worth like $3m will be worth about 250k. And a project rusty mustang will be worth $10 lol

What goes up must come down
I guess.

I agree that rich-guy "investor mentality" has ruined our hobby. I always though muscle/classic cars only got valuable in the late '90's, but I've seen many videos that state otherwise--people have been inflating these prices with "investment" in mind since the late 70's. Think HEMI's, Winged cars, True original Shelby Cobras, etc. These cars were valuable almost instantly. There was almost never a time you could buy one cheap.

Ant then nowadays......Porsche decided to discontinue a stick-shift GT3 some years ago. So a year or two later they release a MEGA special edition sporty model variant of the 911 that was available with a manual. They started at some stupid number like $240k, and were all sold out in minutes. The only thing that made it cool was an engine/trans combo that could have been ordered by ANYONE two years earlier. Apparently they were worth gobs of money afterwards.

The cars weren't even built and they had appreciated.....investor mentality.....pshhh...what a joke.
