Longhorn cut down to short box

I’m sure someone has but can’t for the life of me imagine why someone would. That longhorn is a real truck, built to work its butt off day in and day out.

I've never done it, nor seen it done.. I wouldn't advise doing it for two reasons -- (1) bad idea, and (2) bad idea... OK 3 reasons.. (3) As Taskforce said -- It's a real truck, built to work, not parked in a space at some car show...

A Longhorn has a 1T frame. It rides hard already, unless loaded. Shorter would be worse, and what would a C-notch look like? I have so many questions about why.

You most likely wont find the answers you are looking for here. This place is great, but tends to lean more to the preservation or stock side of things.

If you have InstaGram reach out to @classic_chev, he does a lot of boxside shortening and may be able to help you. He’s also a member here, but for the life of me i can’t remember his handle.

Does the OP intend to swap the suspension for that of a half ton? If not, anyone who sees it will know it isn't right.
I'd also agree that longhorns are somewhat rare if not terribly desirable. Why hack one if you don't need to?

The why is in his user name. He is obviously looking for a way to throw away or burn some of that excess cash. That's the only possible reason.

While I wouldn't cut a 'Longhorn' down to a shorty for the exact reason it is a Longhorn (the rare, longer than standard LWB HD frame & extended long bed), there are plenty of guys building HD 4x4 Blazers on SWB length frames so it's entirely possible someone w/the right skillset, vision, & bank account could pull off a bad-arse build of one.

In a nutshell..... Do it if 'ya want.

Don't like the idea? Provide respectful info advising why it shouldn't be done.
Beyond that, if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say, don't say anything.

I agree that the guy just asked a question, no need to ridicule.

Maybe the Longhorn is a wreck and whatever he has planned will save it from being crushed: who knows.

I wouldn't do it, but I would admire the craftmanship if it were done well. As hypotheticals go, it is definitely the first time someone has asked the question, on a forum with about 10 million posts.

I personally would not cut down a longhorn if it was complete and could be made into a usable truck. If the body panels (bed) was shot I could see converting to a short bed HEAVY DUTY 4x4 or a lowered SB with a 2 stroke Detroit Diesel (if I had the skill/ money to do so).My suggestion is if you own it and converting the truck to a short bed gets you the truck you want go for it. If you decide to go for it hopefully you have the Time/Money and patience to see it through ( I never seem to have these at the same time). How many
conversions/restorations get started and never completed? Too many.

If you can keep the bed or trade it to someone who has looked for one for quite a while like I did. I was wanting a longhorn bed to make a dually bed out of. A regular long bed might could be bought cheap enough to cut down and still have what you want, and preserve the rare long horn. But if another bed isn't a viable option cut away it is your and I'll support your decision. Jim

*Actually Jimmys are not designated K/5s. K/750 would be the equivalent to the Blazer's K/5, but GMC doesn't play games. A 4X4 Jimmy is a K/1500 just like a pickup.
