The truck is still proving itself to be reliable.
I'm still at 9psi, which is proving to be enough to get plenty squirrelly, and I'm sure more would just get me into more trouble faster. Let's play a game! A vehicle appraiser did the once over on the '61 Apache today, in my anticipation of getting good insurance coverage for this. How much do you all figure this is worth? The whole build is here, you can see what I've done and how it was built. It's not vet57air "CGT" level of awesome, but I'm pretty sure I spent far less than he did building mine. Still. I'ma curious. Begin!

I'll go ahead and say $54,000, which would be 74,000 Canadian dollars, a lot of money,
but there's a lot of good work and great parts in it. But I don't have the knowledge to estimate correctly, I can't even properly assess my truck.

The appraised value has little to do with what it cost to build and more to do with what similar trucks on the market are selling for. I spoke to an appraiser who was doing mine. He said sometimes people would come out with a binder of invoices on their build but he wasn't interested in it other than to see the quality of parts used, the proof of rebuilt engine, trans, etc.
My appraisal form has different ratings like, Concours Condition, 3 levels of Excellent, 3 levels of Good condition, Fair, Poor, Parts car. Mine came back at the 3rd level of Excellent. "A well restored vehicle, a combination of superior restored and excellent original components; or an extremely well maintained original showing minimal wear. Chassis and Engine must be clean or partially detailed." Value: $55,000- $57,000 cdn. (summer 2021) |

Appraiser sent me some "comparable" examples he's using for numbers.
He also said "there is no other truck exactly like yours, I have tried to hit the high value points and similar condition." Flattering. And yeah, mine is a bit different than the run-of-the-mill Chevy truck. Other guesses?

This is a dangerous game. You’ve done a ton of stuff that is appreciated by guys that are into the details. But is that valued in the general market? is there an insurance company that will insure it for the cost to have it replaced at typical shop rates rather than for what it might sell for on an auction site? Anyway, if I saw your truck on bringatrailer I’d guess it would get bid up to $45-50k.

It's a dangerous game. But a truck is only worth what the market will bear. An insurance company will only pay what its market worth is.
...Which is kind of why you should be careful how much you spend on a truck, or anything for that matter - you see that often: hundreds of thousands spent to build something that nobody would pay to buy. I've spent less building the entire truck than others spend at just the body shop. I just want to have a number I can argue the insurance company for should the truck be stolen or destroyed. I appreciate your bid though (grin). We'll see when the final number comes through.

Appraisal came in at $71,000 CDN, so roughly $52,000 USD.
SCOTI wins by Price-Is-Right rules. You get a ride in the truck, my good man! I think that's probably fair. Higher than I think I expected. He certainly spoke highly of the truck - I appreciated that, as I know all my mistakes - it's nice to hear "good."

Exciting updates.
I just finished building my own CNC Plasma Table. Build from scratch from a set of plans, and pretty easy to do. I have a 2x2 CNC at work, but I ain't going to work forever, so this is more in preparation of retiring - I want one of my own. And now I have one Details of the build, plus some video, are HERE. Also ordered a steering rack rebuild kit, as the one I got from the wreckers leaks, and I don't like that. I'll detail that when the parts arrive.

Sweet! Hate to be the first one to ask but what would you estimate you have into it minus the actual plasma cutter? This and a 3D printer are on my "If I ever have money" list but man the price of entry is steep it seems on the cutter tables.

I'm into it for $1100CDN, which would be about $775US in today's dollar. This included a stainless water tray, a Z-axis probe, and a rotary-positioner to cnc-plasma cut tubing fishmouths and such. You could probably do it for $500.
You want a low-frequency-start ("blow-back") plasma cutter. A number of the parts here are 3D Printed. I did buy a 3D Printer and printed in PET-G with 100% fill. You can buy the 3D printed parts from the guy who sells the plans, as well as some pre-cut plates for assembly.
