Self inflicted again steering box help
Who has more fun than me !!! I figured out why my alternator belt was crooked while changing back to my old one. While I had it off my steering was getting a little too free so I decided to tighten the box, I have done this many times since the sixties so no big deal I had room and I could see it. Just loosen the 5/8 nut and then turn the set screw in 1/8 to 1/4 turn. What could be easier ! That shiny spot is where the adjuster used to be.
Anyone have a steering box that I can get the side plate and adjuster? GM part number is 7802644 all I need is the side plate see picture below. Thanks |

Re: Self inflicted again steering box help
I just pulled this part out of a junk power steering gearbox off my '71 K10. There is a threaded collar that secures it to the output shaft. It was staked in place. So between unstaking it and not realizing right away that the threads on the collar were left-handed, the collar is a little mutilated. Maybe you'd have better luck while removing yours and could reuse your collar. Anyway, $12 shipped if you want it.

Re: Self inflicted again steering box help
That was a good decision. This rod is not easy to swap out.
