Thanks that's what sold me on the truck, I knew it needed a ton of work but it just called to me.

Its actually all dark metallic gray with green and blue flakes but in low like it looks black, in the sun its a lot lighter color.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Added some new bling to the interior.
ACC C10 floor mats, these don't curl every time I get in like the old ones I had.
Brothers radio bezel, just something I was eyeing for a while and decided to add one.
'72 specific door support screws, never had any since I bought it and my OCD got the better of me. Almost every '72 door I see is missing these screws and I was done being one of those guys.
Cupholdersplus bench seat armrest/cup holder, I bought this short style so I could still bring my automatic shift lever down to 1st gear if I needed. So much more comfortable having something to lean on while riding around.
My sniper tune is pretty good so I don't need to keep moving the monitor around so I finally mounted it under the dash, here I can see it easily and if I don't want to it folds back up into the bottom of the dash. Mostly all I look it now is if its learning and if the fans are off or on.
I replaced the old gray AC/heat vent balls with Chrome and black vents, still not planning to do AC until closer to spring.

And lastly my rear pinion seal is leaking, could have just replaced the seal but since I light up one tire anytime I'm making a turn from a stop I decided to install a posi.
Going with the Eaton Detroit Truetrac, new 3.73 yukon gears and while its apart swapping in ne axle bearings and seals as well as the diff rebuild kit.
Already put 500 miles on the new engine so I changed the oil and filter yesterday, submitted my data logs to my tuner so you can make adjustments to my tunes.
Realized that my butterfly's were not opening 100% and the throttle cable the last owner had installed was about 2' too long, so I replaced with the correct length cable and no I get 100% throttle.
Summer heat is almost here so I'm trying to hurry and get the truck finished so I'm not trying to install or replace parts over the summer.

Sometime over the summer I'm going to order an all chrome glove box door and figure out a way to make the center black to match the gauge bezel, the all black just seems too plain.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Finally did the chrome and black glove box door, matches much better than the solid black door to me and my OCD.

Halfway through my new posi and re-gear on the diff, everything is apart and cleaned. I have the new axle bearings and seals installed and seated the bearings on the Detroit truetrac, time for some measuring and seeing if using youtube as a guide to installing a new rear end is worth it.

Also I'm hoping I lucked out, someone on facebook was selling a new original style interior fuse block and wiring harness complete. Said it came with a project he bought and didn't need it, sold it for $300 shipped. Mine is old and been cut up and hacked up so many times I would love to replace it all inside.
If its a scam I used paypal and will get my money back, but when I look for these classic style fuse harnesses they are a lot more expensive for a plug and play complete interior harness. Fingers crossed.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Rear diff with posi and new gears is done, horrible storm outside so I'll wait for the test drive. Also replaced the rear disk pads while the wheels were off.

New interior wiring harness showed up, it looks brand new with every plug present. So glad it wasn't a scam and to me its a good deal for $300. Mine stock harness is a mess and its been worrying me with a vintage air system going in this fall.

I'm surprised the stock fuses even work as rusty as they are.

Thank you.
I decided to order a TMI dash pad, black with red stich. I've wanted one for years and the price has always kept me from ordering, finally bit the bullet.

I figured if I was going to be inside the dash replacing the wiring it would be a good time to do the dash pad as well since the gauges will already be out.

I also have some new Holly retrobright headlights coming, I like the ones I have but they're designed for motorcycles and it shows at night. Hopefully these new Holly headlights will make it brighter to drive at night, with no AC yet mornings and nights is when its cool enough to go out for drives.

I do have a headliner but its all red and the trim around it is broken in several places, not something you see unless you look up but I decided to get that corrected also.
Ordered a new trim ring and while it's out Ill have a shop recover it in red houndstooth, another item I've been wanting to do for a while and finally checking it off the list.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Holly retrobright headlights came in so I installed them last night, super bright. I hope they don't blind other cars, I have them aimed a little lower just in case.

Trim ring came in for my headliner, the old one had a lot more screws holding in so I guess the previous owner added some. Need to remove and take it to get covered.

Dash pad is suppose to be here Mon so maybe next week I can get started on the new TMO dash and the new wiring harness.

Last pic is the lights I replaced, they just didn't have the light output I wanted.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Put the new TMI dash pad in, its charcoal black and red stitch. Found it on ebay new at a good price (for a TMI item) and grabbed it. It was about $200 cheaper than from the TMI store and ready to ship, otherwise I would have bought the vinyl black and red stitch.

In person it matches better but the flashlight and my phone camera makes it look lighter black.

The horror stories about the mounting hardware breaking are true, I snapped mine in as gentle as I could thinking Id be the one and both end bolts came off.
At least I think they did, they just spin when I try to put the bolt on. The center bolt is good for now and since the whole pad fits so tight it feels solid with just the one center bolt installed.
I see why there are almost no install videos on youtube that show the entire process.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Few more from outside while there is a break in the rain, I really like how it looks. I also put some black laminate on my cup holder by the radio, it was too much stainless.

And I put a CST glove box emblem on my glovebox door, don't know what trip my truck was and the decal isn't 72 year specific. But it was red and I liked it and it will be fun when someone calls me out on it at a meet. You really need to know what to look for to tell the difference between the years anyways.

Still need to pull the headliner and get it redone in red houndstooth and put the new chrome trim around it, soon.

The interior is looking great! I like the TMI stuff but it is pricey!

Good luck, Rg

Thanks and yes it is expensive, took my a long time to bite the bullet and order one. If I hadn't seen this one on discount on ebay I might neve have bothered.
Glad I did, love how it looks in person.

Spent the morning tearing out the old in cab harness, what a mess! Trucks going to way a 100lbs less with all the useless wiring that had been installed and cut and crimped and taped.
Will be much cleaner under there when I go to install the Vintage AC this fall.

Going to finish installing tomorrow so I don't get in a rush, I have a few new items to wire into the harness while I'm at it so I make sure I'm not going to burn the truck down.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

I added a 69 Camaro front spoiler, painted it gloss black.

I had seen it on a few trucks and love the looks, Vanatta Fab sell one similar that he based off the 69 spoiler. But his he need to weld together and its $130 vs this plastic replica that's $50 and ready to bolt on.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

I like the spoiler look. My front bumper has something similar, though it's sheet metal tack welded to the custom front bumper. But I like the air dam look on these a lot. Truck looks great, love what you're doing inside and out!

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

I don't always reply to the compliments but I do apricate them, thanks to everyone who has mentioned enjoying my build.

After all the hard work its nice to finally get out to some cruise in's and hear other classic car owners say they like what I've done.

Only ever see a couple other C10's at most here local but we normally get together and walk around to check out the cars, and normally end up back at our trucks going back and forth asking questions and seeing what the others trucks have.

Amazing how a few moments turns into a couple hours.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Haven't needed to work on the truck during the summer so not a lot to update, just been hitting the cruise ins and car shows. Having a blast even without A/C.

I did but some eye bolts in the bed replacing the four button head bolts in each corner, cut to have a place for tie downs if I need it.
Also found a like new 1973 Coleman cooler that I can use at shows since its so hot here in NC.
Also decided I have all winter to worry about getting a vintage air/heat installed so I put it on hold and ordered a new cowl hood instead. Also have some billet hood hinges and latch assembly ordered.
One of the biggest eye sores for at the shows is the inside of my hood is rusty and looks horrible, so I'll paint the new hood on both sides.

I did also swap out the flat topped center bolt valve covers for some angled covers, still black with red script but angled. I removed the wire loom plate that covered most of the valve cover, looked too tacky for me.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Not too bad of a fit, I didn't adjust the hinges since I'll be putting the stock hood back on while I get this ready for paint.

Using the stock hood mounting location it all seems to fit well, I have some new CVF black billet hood hinges and an LG billet hood latch in black to install after painting the hood. So once I install everything I'll get the hood dialed in perfect.

I am going to drill and fit another bowtie on the hood, I have a new one ordered. I'll be painting the center black again.

It already looks like you painted it! I like it, those hinges look nice as well.

After having the first one crushed during shipment and hearing horror stories about fitment from other owners I was getting worried I made a mistake.

After test fitting and it was already almost perfect I knew I made the right decision, my new bowtie will be here tomorrow so I'll fit and drill the the holes for that and then I can get busy painting the hood.

I know they're not for everyone but I love the look on lowered trucks.

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

Waiting for the rain to pass so I can get to painting the new hood, don't need all the moisture and humidity.

My next project was always going to be a vintage AC unit, but with winter coming I decided to hold off on that until the end of winter or until next spring.

Rolled the dice and landed on ordering a 200-4R stage 2 overdrive transmission, direct replacement for my TH 350 as far as size so no driveshaft replacement.

I've been doing research on what needed so I have to get the rest of the parts to make it work but I think this will be a nice upgrade to the 3.73 gears I installed. Highway driving at 65-70 has my RPMs in the 3000 range so I don't like going far, I can sell my TH350 to help recoup some of the damage.

This stage 2 is rated for 550hp so I should be fine for my in and around town driving that I mostly do, I know the 200-4R isn't as popular as the 700R4 or the other newer 4 speeds but I like that its the same size as the TH350.

I'm going to order the correct bracket for my Holly sniper since getting the lines correct is the most important part of the install, and I'' get the lock up parts to make it all work correctly.

Pretty big chunk of change for everything but I know it will make driving more enjoyable, and I'll be able to start taking some longer rides on the highway at lower RPMs.

This has turned out to be a really sharp looking truck.... Normally I dont care for those wheels... But they look great on this... Right height on the truck and right size on the wheels.. Nice job

Re: 72 getting rid of the 90's mistake.

So I had a lady back her truck into the front of mine yesterday at the school drop off, luckily her trailer hitch was all that hit me and it was just my bumper that is already pretty banged up from the previous owner.

So I ordered a new paintable front bumper, and decided since I have to paint my new cowl hood anyway that I would get a new cowl that doesn't have vents.

And I ordered a blow up paint booth to try, hanging plastic in my garage last spring was okay but still made a bit of a mess.

Should be a good winter, list of what I have to do or install is
1) new over drive 4 speed trans sitting n garage
2)replace intake manifold gasket
3)paint and install hood with new billet hinges
4)paint and install new front bumper
5)paint and install new ventless cowl
6)strip crap paint job off tail gate and repaint
