Re: '57 Stepside, Big Window Project

Trying to decide on a console for it... will need to house some cup holders, bluetooth media player, Subwoofer/Amp. I have a design in mind, just need to get it built. Here's some interior pics...

Re: '57 Stepside, Big Window Project

Nice looking truck.
I wonder about the driveshaft yoke and if it is pushed into the rear of the trans enough. You could jack the truck up by the frame, so suspension hangs, and eyeball the yoke at the same time just to check. It would suck to lose the shaft over a whoopee bump. Could be expensive.
One point on your console, since the interior mostly has rounded edges and corners, I wonder if the console would fit in the look better if the edges and angles had softened corners too. Harder to build, I know.

Re: '57 Stepside, Big Window Project

I can mark it and remove the driveshaft to measure how far it is inserted. Do you know how far it should be inserted into the trans?

I didn't put the drivetrain in. I had the shop who finished it for me do it. But, knowing how much stuff they Eff'd up, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't the proper length. They supposedly measured and had a custom shaft made to mate the 4L65e to the Jaguar IRS.

I like the rounded edges idea... I should be able to use a router to soften the corners and edges before wrapping it with the internal material used on the door panels and seats from TMI.

Re: '57 Stepside, Big Window Project

The jag rear should be relatively stationary at the center section, so no real up/down movement that would affect the driveshaft length like a regular solid axle would. Sorry, On my phone I didn't see the pic detail of the rear axle. That said I would still mark the yoke and pull the shaft to see the amount the yoke is inserted. Frames flex, mounts allow movement, stuff happens, better safe than sorry.
Router the edges, a little foam., soft corners. Done deal.

Good advise... Thanks, I'll do just that and post the results of my investigation!
