T221 Popping out of gear

My 67 T221 recently started popping out of 2 hi and 4 hi. I can see the lever move when I touch the gas in 1st or reverse (sm465). I opened up the top today the springs balls and detents all looked good. I was looking for adjustments for the linkage, but the only ones I found showed the levers at 1 1/2" to the center of the holes. Fully tuned in mine only go to 2". Any suggestions are appreciated. The truck pretty much sat for the last 6 months. Before that it didn't pop out of gear. Do you think a broken engine mount or something else might be causing it? Thanks in advance, John

Re: T221 Popping out of gear

Dug through some old parts, there is a difference in length between a 3spd and 4spd linkage. The 4spd one is on the left. Problem solved, maybe this will help someone.

Re: T221 Popping out of gear

Pulled the transfercase out, found my problem. Rear input bearing was trashed and tore up the inside of the cap. Does anybody have an extra cap they would want to sell? Also I see that Torque King sells the rear bearing, does anyone have the bearing number so I can check my local bearing shop. Thanks John

Re: T221 Popping out of gear

Took that bearing out of my spare case. Only number I could read was 3206. Unfortunately can’t read the name, so don’t know if that helps. I’ll be tearing down the other case soon, so will let you know if I find a better number.

As far as the back cover, I have one that’s kind of beat up as well, but looks serviceable and better than yours. I’m happy to send it to you and if you can use it you can just have it.

I just got a NOS input shaft from a guy named Brad at TransAction in Southern California. He might be able to help with new or used parts. 818-504-6262. He seems like a nice guy, please let me know if he’s helpful to you.

Sending PM with contact info
Tom

Re: T221 Popping out of gear

Got the bearing out of my other case. It’s a Nachi brand (Japan) #6206N C3, but it does not have the shield facing the inside of the case. As I understand it this shield is very important as it keeps the oil from draining out. Oil gets to the bearing through the trough in the bearing cap on the outside. My case had so much sealant used on one of the caps that it blocked this trough and starved the bearing, thus destroying it. Could that have been what destroyed yours as well?

Re: T221 Popping out of gear

6206N C3
62 is the bearing series

06 in the ID in mm. 6*5=30mm bore.

N is the snap ring groove.

C3 is the bearing's internal clearance. This one has extra clearance for elect motors, in this application, it will be just fine.

In addition you will want one listed as 1RS which is a seal on on side. Typically you see a 2RS, seals on both sides. Just remove one with a screw driver and your good.

Most other manufactures use the same nomenclature.
