Starter, battery wiring

Should the wire from the alternator go directly to the battery and not the starter? I have seen both ways done and wondered which is the only way or if both are acceptable.

Does anyone have any pictures of how they did their wiring to the starter as well as the alternator? I am int he process of re-wiring my 67 and need some inspiration.

I've heard of it being both ways, but don't know why that would be the case. If you don't already have it, you can download the maintenance manual as a .pdf here:

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...ghlight=hatzie

It has all the wiring diagrams in it. Be sure to pick the '67 year model; there are some differences, I hear tell.

Re: Starter, battery wiring

Are you rewiring it for an internally regulated alternator?

Re: Starter, battery wiring

I didn't use a one wire alternator when I installed my new one (CS130) but here is a link to how I did my conversion. It may help you. Scroll to post 467 to start.

Wiring changed in 72, might help to know what year you are working on and if the wiring is OEM style or not.
