Power Door Lock Help

I'm trying to figure out how and where to install a power door lock actuator on my 1955.2 truck. Can it be done with these goofy latches or do I need to convert to the Altman latch. I'm installing a Digital Guard Dawg kit along with their push button start system. Thanks

Re: Power Door Lock Help

Has anyone done or looked into if you can modify the door to use the door latch assembly out of a Tri-Five car. They utilize a push button to lock the doors and not the handle. I guess I am trying to make the truck more secure but I cannot see how a slim Jim can unlock the door. Yeah I know. A thief that wants anything bad enough is just going to break the glass.

Re: Power Door Lock Help

The original locks were actually a combination of two locks. Locking the outside handle consisted of turning the lock cylinder in the pushbutton so the button could not be pressed. The door could be opened from the inside but could not be opened from the outside.

Locking from the inside meant lifting the handle and engaging a lock mechanism in the latch. The outside button could press the latch linkage but the latch would not release. The door could only be opened from the inside by releasing the lock to press the handle down.

If you are trying to prevent the outside button from being pressed, maybe it's an easy matter to use a solenoid to slide a blocking device between exterior button and the lock linkage? If you are trying to lock the inside latch you might want an electric lock motor to pull on the door handle rod to lock the door.

Re: Power Door Lock Help

I bought the same Digital dog security system, key fob handpush button start and Altman latches for my 51 Chevy truck. I had been trying to figure it out myself, but your question made me go back to their website.
Looks like Altman offers the hardware to make it work, just have to use a solenoid to lock it.
Here’s a link to it. Let me know if it takes you to the gear:

I will look for an install video or instructions as well.

Thanks R&B51. The link took to their lock actuator bracket but I can't figure out how it mounts and works. Let us know what you come up with. I'm not sure of the differences with your 51 door to mine. I'm going to give them a call and see what they can tell me. Sure would like to get rid of the need of a key to lock and unlock my doors. Thanks

Plenty of videos on the youtube.
Just search altman claw latch 55-59 or 1956 with chevy truck.

Re: Power Door Lock Help

Sorry, I sometimes don’t read close enough before I respond.
I noticed that in the description on these brackets, it says:
This kit does not include lock actuators (I bought those separately) and is
***only meant to be used on a 47-51 Chevy***
Let me know if you hear something from them when you call them about your application.
They may also have some information about adapting it to later year Truck
They may also offer a link to some installation videos.
Good luck and let me know what you find out.
Like you, trying to keep the handles and avoid poppers, but wanted electric lock function.
I was ultimately looking for key fob, unlock from the outside on both doors
Plus
Unlock and lock switch on the inside of the door that is overridden by pulling on the handle to escape if needed.

Thanks R&B51. I'm curious as to what and how those that have changed their outside door handles with Camaro style handles. How do they lock/unlock their doors.
