At about 17 years old In 1962 I sold my 52 Chevy 4 door for $50 and took off to Arkansas near a little town called Scotland with my brother-in-laws brother Sherman . My two sis's married a couple guys from Arkansas and so I left Oregon to visit and stay with one of them. and get a job.
All the way on the trip back there was this new popular song playing on the Radio ,,,,,,,,, "Wolverton Mountain" and I really liked it so Sherman took me to this mountain
mentioned in the song close to Center Ridge Arkansas and sure enough on the mailbox the name was Clifton Clowers who is the father in the song . That day at 17 years old I felt like I had met a celebrity even if it was just a name on a mail box

I was on a 6 am Flight out of Oakland Ca the Morning of 911 heading for Wyoming. The
Captain came on and told us what was going on and that we were putting down in Las Vegas. As I walked into the Terminal there was a Giant TV Screen showing the second plane hitting. People were scared some crying, it was Crazy. I was lucky to secure a car.
As I went to get my luggage I said loudly “ I have a car and I’m going to Oakland, I have room for three” Two ladies and a gentleman grabbed me and asked to go. So 4 strangers drove from Vegas back to Oakland that day. I left home that day at 4 am and got back home at 4am next day. A Day I Will NEVER FORGET

I was in Vegas at a trade show on 911. I watched the second plane hit. All flights cancelled. I was put in charge of finding rental cars. We needed three. I booked three caddies at the Vegas airport. Went to pick them but we couldn't get inside the airport perimiter.
Hired a limo to take us to AZ to pick up cars. 29 hours later we were home in MN.
Two weeks later I was on a flight and prior to the take off and during the flight you could of heard a pin drop.

This was kind of funny from when I was a kid. I was heavy in to Boy Scouts and was learning about wild life, I loved it. Our house and our neighbors house were a good distance apart. One day I was listening to the adults talk and the neighbor was telling dad he was having trouble with raccoons. Oh man that was really exciting to me, I had read the book Rascal about a boy adopting a raccoon, I really wanted one. One night I decided I wanted to see the raccoons. I adjusted my bed to sort of look like I was still in there, hopped out the window leaving it open so I could climb back in. I was out there a good while and of course as much as I searched I saw no raccoons. I went back to the house and went to climb in the window but it was closed and locked tight. I thought my dad had locked me out of the house to teach me a lesson or something. It hit me emotionally not in a mad way but a sad way. Why would he do this? After a while of sitting on the porch I finally got up the courage to knock on the front door. Dad came to the door in his underwear, before he could say anything I asked how come he locked me out of the house? I was trying to hold back the tears. He really was in shock, what are you doing outside? I told him what I had been up to. He said, I didnt even notice you weren't in the bed, I closed your window because it was getting chilly in your room. I didnt get in trouble we just went to bed and the next morning he said next time you want to do something like that just ask and we will do it together.

Brunswick Windup Record Player
This story is from 1963 , I was headed to town with a friend and seen a sign along the highway that said House and Farm for sale and everything inside too. So, we stopped and found that it was a auction and I said to my friend I want these two things ,, This old NewBrunswick wind up record player and this set of 1915 or so Encyclopædia Britannica,
Just as I said that to my friend a old guy heard me and says to me that he wanted one of these and if I picked the one I want he would bid on the other and therefore we would not be bidding against each other and drive the price up. I agreed and got the old player for $15 ..I still have it
It was bought new from Myer & Frank in Portland Oregon in 1922

Hmm, well, one that means a lot to me is a section of town, which is about an 8 block area each way, at most counting my paper routes. The town is now 80K, so a little uncanny.

Home to the first place we lived, when we moved here in 1973, after my parents divorced.

Home to my first job, as a paper boy. I had 2-4 routes in the same area.

Across the street lived my first girlfriend; a straight hair very blond and playful tomboy in a Sundress. On a side, after 50 years I found her just 6 months ago. She lives 20 minutes from my girlfriend, on the other side of the Sierras. We went to lunch a few months ago. We have a lot in common, including both high school dropouts.

It's where I bought my Chevy

The mother of my children worked a few lots over from where I bought my Chevy, for 20 years; and since my eldest was a 1 yrs. old.

Home to my all-time favorite job, managing a car wash and gas station. Age of early responsibility, and some wisdom too. I failed to mention I met the mother of my children at that car wash, married 32 years, together 36......Five blocks over I lost my virginity. It's not quite the same area as the rest of this, but I feel the need to mention it because The Boy in the Plastic Bubble premiere was on the TV at the time, located just a few feet away, and Travolta wasn't the only one in a bubble. I was a just a boy myself after all. Raise your hand if you know the date you...................Destiny destiny, there's no escaping that for me. I seem to get that a lot. My buddy, who was like an older brother gave me that bubble a week earlier, a premonition of sorts his part because I soon found a place for it.

Next door to my carwash was my favorite restaurant and ice cream stop. Counting dimes spent after my afternoon paper route, I probably bought 250 twist cones there.

Home to one of my dear friends, RIP, who operated a shop located two lots over for decades.

Home to the only time my dad and I played catch. He was a former minor league pitcher. He said I had a good arm, I didn't know that, and he wasn't wrong☺

And where my mom and stepdad lay today.

Picture of the restaurant. Funny my carwash, this restaurant, and where I bought my Chevy are the smallest lots on main street. The carwash was next door the restaurant, and the Chevy, which I bought six years later was located four blocks away.

Just as well add a picture of the lot where I bought my Chevy in 1989. I took this picture to celebrate it's restoration, where it's parked in the same spot I found it. The lot is so small you can barely or not make a business of it.

I am getting My Vacation this weekend.

I have been going to the Swap Meet in Downtown Nashville for 30 years.

This is my vacation
I rent a Booth and if I sell something that is okay.
If not

I have met a Lot of good people over the years participating in this swap meet.

So I will tell the story of my Impala build at a later date.
I need to take pictures of my Polaroid pictures of that when it happen.

Another day in my life I will never forget is the day my 2nd Son was born. My 1st wife passed away. I remarried 2 years later and was expecting Our 1st child. It was a Thursday night about 8:30 December 6th. Baby wasn’t due until late February Early March. My wife called for me to “ Come Here”. I said just a minute, she said “No Now, I just had the Baby”
Yep 3 months early at home on the Bathroom floor 3 lbs 11 oz. Called 911 and the rest is History. He’s now 40 years old, 6’2” 200 lbs and two kids of his own. Thought about naming him after his Grandpa but John just didn’t seem Right.His name is Steven Thomas

I have several but one that always comes to mind is with my grandfather. I called him Gramps and he was my best friend from the time I could remember up until he passed away when I was a 16-yr old. We hung out every day we could and did a lot of things together. I was the youngest boy of 9 kids, I had a younger sister. Gramps was in WW2 and stationed in Europe. When I was around 7 or 8, I was looking at some of his medals that was hanging on the wall in his den and he was telling me that he got this one from his time when they were holed up in some town. Me watching to many movies I asked him if he shot anyone. He said he didn't know because bullets were flying everywhere, and he was not about to peek over the wall and see if he did.

Edison Phonographs were the only ones that used the thicker "Diamond Disk" records. Brunswick used the standard thin records. The reason being that the Edison phonographs had a diamond needle instead of the steel or sapphire needle that the other players of that era used. The diamond needles produced a far superior sound than any other needle produced at that time.......

I just looked up what the $15 I spent buying my old record player in 1963 is worth now ,,,and it is around $150 ,not sure if I could get that price out of mine if I was to sell it.. I did get quite a few records with it

So one more story about my travels for work. Over the close to 40 years at the company I worked for I did some where between 4.5 and 5 million actual air miles on various airlines.
So in the mid to late? 2000's I was at the Newark airport sitting in the NW lounge waiting for my flight back to MPLS.
Suddenly all the power dropped out and standby power came on. Seemed a bit odd. So I sat there for a bit and then got up and spoke to one of the NW lady's at the desk and they had no clue what going on. So I sat back down but after a bit I went down to the gate to see if they had more info. They didn't. Then I saw them wheeling manual stairs up to the airplanes that just came in. The jetways were down due to no power.
Then they airport folks came on over the loud speakers and said " If you live in the NJ area go home. If are flying thru Newark get a hotel room as we don't know when the power will be restored.
So everyone was thinking terror attack. Luckily it wasn't
Got home the next day but it was total mess at the airport in the morning.
