Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
Finally, 8 months after starting on this little project, she moved under her own power again. I need have my carb rebuilt and do some final adjusting, install my ac brackets, and finish putting my dash together. But at least she’s back home!

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
This truck is back under the knife. It’s been sitting in a buddies shop for about 2 years and I figured if it’s there I might as well tear into it. On the list this time:
Replace bad lifter that failed during break in from earlier engine work Rebuild original quadrajet Repaint engine. VSC rattle can orange is not the most durable Repaint black on grille Install decals on hub caps Install new wood grain decal on side trim and tailgate band Replace windshield New gaskets for doors, door glass, window channels, and top Color match raptor liner inside tub Sound deadener throughout New carpet New rear vinyl panels New seat backs Powdercoat original seat tracks Rebuild door guts New door panels Restore original seat belts Get a factory speaker to get the original am/fm playing Misc odds and ends to clean up the inside and out Ultimately I realized that this girl needs some love and I can make it way better without diving into a full restoration. I don’t want shiny paint but I do want a comfortable and reliable driver.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
First up was the wood grain trim tape. Because who doesn’t start with the most visually satisfying part first right?

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
I didn’t get any pics but replaced the bad lifter, installed the freshened up carb just to discover that it was time to buy a new gas tank and battery.
Then I pulled the windshield to find this beauty waiting for me. Patched and fixed now

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
Next up I plan on finishing the sound deadener and installing the carpet. Also hoping to get the windshield installed next shop night and wrapping up the interior less seats. More to come, stay tuned!

Some more pics from tonight. Applied por-15 to the problem area, used some 3m drip check on the joint, and finished my sound deadener
Side note: if you guys haven’t used these hubcap decals you are missing out!

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
A couple more details. Decided to pull out the cluster for a new bezel and paint the needles. Also reused the old windshield wiper stainless arms and installed replacement rubber pieces. Really curious to see how they do in the rain

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY
The list is getting shorter!
I replaced the battery with a new interstate M78, planning to head over there tonight and finish up some wiring repairs and fix some lighting issues that I never resolved Fuel tank is in so I can fire it back up! Leveling mats are installed and cleaned up Gathering the proper trim pieces for carpet termination and rear vinyl panels now. Also working on an order with the Truck Shop to get new seat foam, seat covers, and rear vinyl panels. Doors are completely done and put together. I messed up and used stainless bead fuzzies, my dad informed me that they would have been black so I will replace those. Windshield is in and looks great, need to install the rear view mirror (hopefully tonight) I decided to add two items to the list "while I am here". I pulled out the steering column for a fresh coat of paint and new bearings. It was right there and was really the last piece of the interior that wasnt going to be new. So that is out and being painted right now. I also have been dealing with a failed seal between the t-case and the transmission since I have owned the truck. When I drive it any distance the T-case fills up with ATF and leaks like a sieve. So I am going to bite the bullet and pull out the transfer case and re-seal it, probably paint it while I have it out, and re-install. That should about wrap this phase up. Once I have all of my parts I can finish upholstery and re-install all of the pretty parts. After that is done I will move on to the top restoration, stay tuned ![]()
