Re: 1968 redo

I got the floor and behind the cab sprayed the other day. You cannot tell in this pic but the steering column is a different shade of blue with metallic. Door panels and top of dash between pad and windshield will be this color as well.

Turn signal switch replaced. Was a little bit of a booger getting it in. Had to refer to a few posts on here.

Re: 1968 redo

I am in need of all of these little parts that are supposed to go inside the circle on the clutch rod. Its being held in there with a cotter pin currently. All of the parts disintegrated when they were removed.

Working on the carb. It's a monojet. Removed and ready for disassembly and a good cleaning.

Re: 1968 redo

It is raining here and 40 degrees. Ended the plans to paint the door panels and top of dash today. So, I started work on the manifolds. Broke a stud off the exhaust manifold and found a crack. I'm gonna be needing a new exhaust manifold.

Nice progress! Here's the clip that normally goes where you have a cotterpin in your clutch rod.

Re: 1968 redo

Thanks I have the clip, but seems like there was a bushing or grommet. Kinda like the linkage stuff on upper shift rod

The setup I put in my truck came out of a '67, and it did not have a bushing or grommet. Maybe they added that later.

Re: 1968 redo

A search indicates that some trucks did have a bushing there. See this thread, for example:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=653944

Also, take a look at the first photo on this website. They show a little white bushing sitting next to the end of the push rod.

https://4speedconversions-com.3dcart...k_linkage.html

This might be the right part. It could also be the larger pedal shaft bushing though. Hard to tell its size in the photo, but the description seems right:

Re: 1968 redo

Yes, the little white bushing is what crumbled when we took it out. Thanks.

Not sure, did it hang in there through the cleaning process?

Re: 1968 redo

Got the exhaust manifold ordered. Got a new one. I posted on the board for advice on color to paint the intake and exhaust manifolds. All black or intake blue and exhaust black? Refer to post #90 in this thread to see my engine and look at post #108. The intake is on top of exhaust. I was considering blue on intake and black on exhaust.

Re: 1968 redo

I was wire brushing the intake manifold this morning, hitting that last bend on the end and found a crack running from top to inside to bottom. Thought we would try brazing, but it did not look like it would do. Ordered a matching casting used intake from 12bolt.com. New one is on the right. Looks different but it is same casting number.

Re: 1968 redo

Hit an estate sale in Hot Springs this morning, scored this folding aluminum bench for $15. Used it today spraying dash. Gonna come in handy when we are ready to spray the cab roof!!

Re: 1968 redo

Painted interior dash that was a different color of blue as well as door panels. They match the steering column. A little metallic in it. I am considering doing the buddy bucket tool box the same color instead of gluing vinyl on it.

Re: 1968 redo

Painted buddy bucket seat frame with rust encapsulator as well as buddy bucket tool box. Had a lot of rust. I may go over the tool box with the blue.

Interior prep work coming up next, waiting on an intake and exhaust manifold. Next week temps are going to be in the 20's with snow on Thursday.
