9 year - 18 year life? What a scam

I bought 2, 4 pack boxes of GE LED home light bulbs (100w equivalent) 1500-1600 lumen soft white, 9 year life and they are garbage.

They dont even last 6 months. All 8 bulbs of the 2 boxes have burned out in less than 1 years

I wont be buying any GE bulbs ever again

I have some GE bulbs that say 13 year life. In the fine print they say, "When used 3 hours per day".

Dont toss them. Pop the top ff of the lamp and look at the led chips. They are in series like some Christmas light strings. When one burns out they all stop working. Buy you a tube of silicone. Find the blackened chip and put a glob of it on it and allow it to dry. Put the top cover back end and you wont be able to tell the diference. After you repair a bulb 4 or 5 times, you may see some dimming.

I found some LED's that last as some that do not. I even attempted to get one warranted once. You could not get a hold of anyone using the information on the package.

I am so glad the Consumer Protection Division of our Government was closed. Can't imagine what we would possibly need them for.

Back around 2010 I tried some Par 38's in an enclosed entryway. The entryway was at my wife's beauty salon and it had 8 lights in it. They would be on all night on a photoelectric sensor. The fixures were a pain to replace the bulbs in and I thought that switching to LED's would mean I wouldn't have to replace them for 5 or six years. The Phillips brand bulbs I bought had a 5 year warranty. So I got 2 of them to replace the 2 bad incandescent bulbs I had.

My results were like yours. They would last 3 to 6 months and die. I removed the first one after 3 months and got a replacement under warranty. The replacement failed in 3 months followed shortly by the other one which went a whole 6 months. I removed both of them and returned them. After some discussion the store returned my money. Which at the time was $60 a piece. Fortunately I had all the receipts.

Not only were they expensive but they actually caused me more labor keeping them replaced than the old school bulbs. GRRRRR..........

I'll have to start buying that kind. One diode failing doesn't change the overall lifetime. I will say that taping on the aluminum foil may fail, as the bulb gets pretty hot. How conductive is JB Weld? One dot would do it.

Could try conductive epoxy . Not really cheap but if you’re only using a drop or two a tube should last a long time . I buy bulbs when they are on clearance . I bought a few four count boxes of 60 watt soft white LED bulbs for $2 a box at Walmart a few months ago .

If you prefer a "conductive adhesive" this is a good product to use.

I have 2 bulbs
I can Experiment with.

Just yesterday they blew out.

I do have some (saved up) Incandescent bulbs.

Some of them do not fit my Wifes decor.

These LEd bulbs are what is available at the HD
So that what determines/limits my pick of lighting.
and I have almost Quit going to Lowes for various reasons.

This is crazy......I have a bunch of cheapo bulbs from the dollar tree that have been in use for a couple years at least! The vanity lights in our bathroom stay on about 12 hours a day because my wife has a thing about just leaving lights on (guess she wasn't raised like me with dad yelling at the top of his lungs "Who left this damn light on!!!")


EDIT: Just decided to jump up and check the fixture right above my recliner......YEP, cheapo "Great Value" bulbs been in this one since '21!! I date 'em when installed to keep tabs on this stuff.
