Engine Harness Routing Question

Working on a 75 but it should be the same for various years.

Does the fuel tank sending unit wire (tan with a boot on the end) route through the metal starter wire tube along with the starter wires, and then back to the tank, or does it not go into that tube?

For the life of me, I can't find any internet photos showing it.

Re: Engine Harness Routing Question

Mine goes through the tube. It seems to work out well. I don't know if I would have thought of that myself and I usually like to leave stuff the way the factory did it. I have replaced the engine and trans in my truck though.

Re: Engine Harness Routing Question

I've got a new M&H harness. They make them just like the factory did.

The sending unit wire comes out the end of the plastic split loom with the starter wires. The split loom is taped around the end. The split loom is snug against the opening of the steel tube. So, if I leave the sending unit wire out of the steel tube, it's going to chafe on the edge of the tube unless I modify the harness somehow. That's why I'm thinking the sending unit wire must have gone through the tube toward the starter and then backward to the fuel tank.
