Things heard at the parts store and other things that make me SMH
I was at one of the chain parts stores yesterday and overheard a guy asking for that oil he saw on TV that restores power. The parts counter person fixed him up with a couple of jugs of oil and a free filter and then explained that with synthetic, he could probably change the oil every 10k miles. The guy then said he would change the oil every 3k and just the filter every third time. I get it that everyone starts somewhere, and good on him for learning and trying, but he was probably over 50, maybe he had never owned a car or needed one. That is one of the more sensible conversations I have overheard there. Try explaining to the counter persons what you need if you have a vehicle with a non-stock motor in it or an older motor with ci. and not liters.

Try having a truck where GM changed the designation from "C/K" to "R/V".
It was confusing back then and it's confusing now. I just ask for parts from an '85 or '86 (unless it is specific to an '87). K

Re: Things heard at the parts store and other things that make me SMH
Reminds me of the time I went in to buy a 2 qt filter for my Silverado, guy behind the counter asked me what it was for, pointed to my truck outside and he said, your gonna blow up your engine, I just smiled and left with my 2 qt filter, been running the bigger filter for the last 20 yrs.

SMH! Another clueless counter jerk/clerk.
I just went to our local outdoor watersports parts counter for a fuel line coupling for my old Mercury outboard motor. I had to show him what the part looks like. They had only 1 on the peg board. Wrong size. That's all they have. Said you ain't gonna find one of those for a Mercury anymore except for aftermarket. Yes I know. This one he had was some off brand I never heard of. Mine is original 1981 Mercury. Can't imagine why it started leaking like crazy. ![]() The place also has the hose and squeeze bulb with wrong ends for $135 !!! I couldn't get out of there fast enough. ![]()

Re: Things heard at the parts store and other things that make me SMH
The one funny parts counter experience I had at OReillys was buying points. Gave the kid (probably 25) the part numbers for points, condenser, cap & rotor. They had them all. He did ask me why I didn't convert to electronic ignition. I said if I did, I'd have no reason to keep my dwell meter. The look on his face was hilarious, I could tell he had no idea what a dwell meter was.

Ever been to a North 40 Outfitters ? SMH , Talk about clueless employees. Not only do all of them not know where anything is or what the store sells, I dont think they even know the name of the store they work at

Re: Things heard at the parts store and other things that make me SMH
Some gun store counter employees just plain scare the **** outa me with some things I have seen and overheard. I try really hard not the be the "becoming your parents" guy like in the commercials but it is difficult. I am really surprised some people remember to breathe and keep in mind that 51 percent of the population is BELOW average intelligence and the other 1/2 are dumber than that.
I went through McDs once and asked for iced coffee and the kid asked me if I wanted that hot or cold. - here's your sign Someone at work once asked me if we could provide wireless power to an appliance.

Re: Things heard at the parts store and other things that make me SMH
I went to oreilly a few years back, asked for an A/C belt for my car. The kid clicked through the option prompts and asked me if it had air conditioning...
On another trip to oreilly, I was waiting in line and noticed a couple of high school kids that had been going up and down every isle, then finally got in line after not finding what they were looking for. The were looking for lift blocks, which the store didn't have in stock, but the guy at the counter told them they could just make their own out of wood.
