Factory drive-away, probably Pontiac.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

While I know the Chevy H/J90s and GMC H/J9500s (and their respective Bruin and Brigadier equivalents from 1978) could have the Detroit Diesel inline 6-71 engine with either hood style, I think that if these were ordered with the turbocharged inline 6-71T then they would need the fiberglass tilt hood on it, in order to clear the turbo, correct?

I think the only diesel available in a 90/9500 series with the steel 'butterfly' hood was the 6-71. You would need to find a data book from '78, '79, or '80 to find out for sure as the first year for the 6-71T in those trucks was 1978. The last year the steel side opening hood and fenders were available was 1980.

Yep, 1978 was indeed the first year for the turbo inline 6-71T as well as the low-RPM 6V-92TT "Fuel Squeezer" and the Cummins Formula 290 in these. It's even mentioned in a trade brochure titled "BRUIN - CHEVY'S NEW PAPA BEAR."

Yes, I have a 1977 data book and only the 6-71 is listed for the H/J series. You are probably right, the 6-71T was only available with the 'Brigadier' hood.
