I'm hoping! I'll be running 3.73 gears in it.

Getting things mocked up. Need to do some hinge work on the slots to get the doors dialed in yet

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Getting a little further along in getting sheet meal hung. Also had to put on tires for some extra motivation.

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Hello hevy_chevy67. Happy new year. Is that a true, K5 Blazer, 4WD frame? If so, how did you locate the hole for the Trailing arm cross member? Do you have measurements or a guide? I want to use your blue print. Thanks in advance, Clark.

Yes, my frame is an original 4WD frame.

It was a while ago since I placed the crossmember, but I'm 99.9% sure there was an existing hole on each side I used. I then had to drill the remaining ones. Here are a couple pics I have saved of my front and rear crossmember, the bolts in each picture used an existing hole to get the proper placement and then I drilled new ones for the remaining.

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Started putting the front end together. I had a set of control arms and crossmember powder coated, so I put those together along with 2" drop springs and drop spindles.

Ripped out the engine & trans from the Yukon donor. I was planning to part it out but the FB Marketplace idiots and messages were in full force. Not worth the headache and effort so I sold the whole thing as is and re-couped a bit of my cost. He picked it up on Sunday so at least its gone and down the road.

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Hello hevy_Chevy67. Happy new year. What are you gonna do for the steering link, as it pertains to the idler arm/pitman arm that connects to the center link. I’m converting a 4WD Blazer to 2WD and the passenger side doesn’t have frame indentations to accommodate the idler bracket. I made a template, drilled the (2) holes. The other option was to use a c10 rack and pinion kit . LMK what you think.

I haven't really looked at that yet, I'll have to take a look soon.
Do you have a pic of what you did?

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Took everything apart again. I should have done it before, but I took the front 1/2 of the tub in to get sandblasted. Some metal work to do and then I'll raptor line the bottom of the cab before setting back on the frame.

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

I don't have much experience with a welder but I'm learning. After getting the front half of the tub blasted, it needed some work. The inner piece of the windshield header panel was Swiss cheese with some terrible repairs from a previous owner. Filled with body filler. Anyways, drilled out all the spot welds and took the old piece off. The outer ones were in really good shape, not sure why the inner one went bad. New one one back in and started repair on the radio holes that were cut out. Some grinding needed yet but looks better.

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Sent out my 6l80 to get refreshed and a 2wd conversion a couple weeks ago and it came back. Resealed and cleaned up the 6.2 today and placed into the frame.

Thanks.

I got it from Jegs, it is Key Parts which is the brand I've used for my doors and front fenders.

For whatever reason, it is almost 1/2 the cost of the brand AMD carries on their website. I only used the inner piece but I have no idea why the big price difference.

Thanks for saving my money I just hate to pull my w/s and the can of worms that that opens up

Just might live with the rust falling into my lap for a while longer

I have the same problem with my radio/ dash, bought a OEM used dash patch years ago just haven’t got aroundtoit
Nice work on your sheet metal work

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Good morning hevy_chevy67. I hope all is well. Wow. Your build is exactly like mine. My LS motor will not fit. I am using the same ls kit (Speedway). I am also using the same factory crossmember. It appears that my motor needs to be raise an inch. Is your engine touching the center drag link?

I haven't put in any of the steering components in yet, so I can't confirm. I may need to mock things up shortly and find out. Now I'm worried lol

Do you have any pics of where you mounted for idler arm to the frame?

Re: 1970 Blazer Build

Actually I have saved you the template and kit. I made the template off of a 2WD truck frame. You can test/check the measurements to make sure you have the proper placement. My blazer was originally a 4x4 and I converted it to 2WD by removing the front differential and adding a 2WD drive cross member. If I had it to all over again, I would’ve went with a IFS kit.
