Rear A6 Compressor Bracket

Can the upper rear A6 Compressor bracket be eliminated?
I recently changed valve covers. The new cover is just high enough to require I fabricate a new upper rear bracket if its really needed. I have seen a lot of compressors without this bracket. Is it really required? The factory did not place things just because and it would have been a few bucks per unit, so I figure, yes it's needed
If I need to make one, I'll need to scrounge up a another one and weld two together at some odd angles. The one I have I got from a neighbor. Now I'll need to fine another.
Before we go off topic, yes I know cover height and angle can be an issue for rocker oiling.
