Re: 307 Stroker Anyone???

Wow, I completely forgot about this thread...
So many changes since it was started. I did buy a set of 400 rods. Was in the process of selecting pistons etc.
Then, I just needed the Suburban back on the road. I ended up scrapping the "stroker" and just went basic small block upgrades. Bored .030, decent mild cam, 305HO heads, long-tubes, duals, etc. Drove that combo over 9500 miles, including a 4000-mile roundtrip from Washington to Texas. After I got back, there was a ticking noise that drove me CRAZY! I tried readjusting valves 2 or 3 times. I ended up pulling the top end off and discovered 2 of the CompCams lifters had lost the retaining clips and were about to come completely apart. The engine ate the clips and had bits all through the engine. Called Summit and Comp to no avail. Past the warranty. The warranty manager at Comp sent me 2 of their newest "DLC" (Diamond Like Carbon) face coated lifters as replacements. There was no way I was gonna do that so....full rebuild time....again. Went from .030 to .040, bigger Summit 4-7 swap cam with more lift and duration along with a full set of the Comp DLC lifters, bigger intake valves (1.94), and rejetted my Q-jet.
Ir sounds MUCH better, runs great and I drive it almost daily.
Still have those 400 rods though..........
