Had to remove the washer fluid reservoir to finish the vacuum pump install on my 68 and found a key zip tied to the mount . Looks to be an original GM key . I left it there it’s been there so long no need to move it . And if I lose a key I know where to look .

That's a clever idea, I like that better than the hide-a-key in a magnetic box in the wheelwell.
Have you tried it to be sure it unlocks the door or fits the Ignition?

My truck has been without a spare tire for 15 years or more. Got a new tire a few weeks ago, so I'm working to make the carrier as secure as possible. Also rounded up a bottle jack, lug wrench, and a small 4x4 to keep behind the seat. Gotta make sure I can get the wheels off the ground before I'm good to go.

Got some pics now. So I posted a pic of me installing the AAW Headlite Relay Harness in my 72 a few weeks ago. I thought I may have to cut/trim the headlite buckets to get the LED Headlites installed but they fit perfect. Got em installed and aimed properly and they work great for me. I get lots of clear white light and no one flashing their high beams at me.

Had a reproduction chrome dome light in my truck for the last few years, but the lens made a buzzing noise from road vibrations. Got tired of listening to it, so I replaced it with a NOS unit.

Besides the carb rebuild, I’m doing a general tune up. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, points and the spark plugs. Two of the plugs don’t look good. It’s the original 350 in the truck with 76k miles. I’m going to recheck the timing and run it for a bit and check the plugs to see if cylinders 1 and 2 still look bad. The plugs are R45ts and that’s what I’m replacing them with. I believe initial timing was 8 degrees at idle. I don’t know want total timing is, I never checked it since owning the truck, 8 years now. It ran well so I felt no need to mess with anything. Dwell last time I checked 1k miles ago was 29.5.

Finally dove into the pinion seal on my 72 LWB. Had to remove the carrier bearing mount bolts to get the room to get the u joints out of the yoke.

Once everything was marked, I noticed the old pinion seal had a 1/4" gap...no wonder it was leaking. The OG nut was also HAND TIGHT...like finger tight. The seal puller was better served as a seal destroyer but got it out. New one tapped on and snugged up.

I marked the nut before removal and turned it one extra revolution which felt barely snug but too tight is bad I presume. Back together and no more leak!

No whining or odd sounds out of the rear end.

I thought about it but I'm terrible with doing updates. I did take plenty of pics before disassembly. Looks to me like the truck was "refreshed" in the 90's with a homemade lift kit with plenty of other sins from a PO. Luckily I don't think the drivetrain was played with. The 305E's serial number is on the POP. The SM465 and T221 seemed to be undisturbed. It took me a few years to find SWB K10 and when I found this rust bucket I fell in love.

My backup flash drive failed and I lost all my photos, including all of my build photos, except the most recent ones and the ones I've posted online. I'm so bummed! Here's my steering wheel I refinished over the weekend. I used silver leaf on the spokes and then antiqued it to let the red show through underneath. I'm going to use the same treatment on the gauge bezel chrome trim, the double din radio bezel (going to install a double din cd radio with backup camera), and on the glove box door. I'm going to do a custom painting on the glove box. The abstract light blue shapes on the door are the original body color which I will paint with my new frost blue body color, and the original painting will go in the light grey negative areas. I use that same fragmentation and disintegration in my oil paintings to convey change and the passage of time, so it tracks, especially on a vintage truck. I'm going for a mix of old and new, so basically a resto mod. You can also see the transfer case lever I got from a 1990 Suburban, which is the running gear I'm using in general.

This photo shows the brand new old stock 1990 vintage tbi throttle body I got off ebay. It had been sitting on a shelf for decades in the box. Score! My old one had a wobbly throttle shaft and was causing a major vacuum leak.
