1973 c10 shortbed
This is my new project that I’m starting. I purchase in summer of 25 and it’s been setting at a friend’s place. Today I brought it home to start working on it. Plans are to replace floors, rockers, cab corners and smooth the firewall. I’ll be pulling the 250 and replace it with a refreshed 4.8 with a 4l60e. I’m still debating on keeping the stepside or chance to a fleet.

Cleaned and painted the transmission. I’ll be running the Aces Jackpot I take system to have the old SBC look.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
Yes, I have been setting in it for a while. I have been working on the engine nd gathering parts. My extra room is full so I needed to bring it in to start on it.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
Cool truck with the step side…and nice Daily Driver combo. NOBODY does a 4.8. Respect.
My stock, totally vanilla setup of LM7 5.3 / 4L60E drive by wire is such a nice, predictable, reliable combo for just laying down miles. Last edited by WorldsCrappiestTruck; 02-08-2026 at 10:55 PM. |

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
I only did it because of the price. I pick the whole thing up for $260. So I put rings, bearings and a cam. I did another in a 57 and it came out great!

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
Thanks! I like the look better without. The whole fender has to be replaced.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
During the past week, I have been preparing for surgery, which has primarily involved collecting parts and has hindered progress on other tasks. I have ultimately decided to retain the stepside vehicle, resulting in ownership of two units. This decision was influenced by acquiring a high-quality set in Waco last weekend, which requires only minor rust repair—specifically, a single small rust hole.

Nice, I don't see many steppers anymore, I like them more.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
I know. I was at the C10 nationals last year and only saw one. All my truck buddies kept telling me to keep it it that way. I scored a good deal on some fenders to help make up my mind. Here is my other one.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
Performed additional disassembly on the '73. Removed the engine and transmission for resale via Marketplace. Next is removing the front clip to get the doors aligned. One that’s done then I have a good baseline for the rocker panel and floorpan repairs.

Re: 1973 c10 shortbed
Performed additional disassembly today, including removal of the front fenders and core support. Drilled mounting holes for badges and extracted the heater box. Notably, the firewall panel from the slosh tubs purchase proved valuable, as it revealed rust corrosion on the firewall. Next steps involve removing residual mud from the frame and aligning the door openings to facilitate subsequent sheet metal restoration.
