What determined steering wheel color on '72 trucks
What determined steering wheel color on 72 year trucks, was it same as the truck color, interior color code, was it on the SPID and did all Highlander packages have a black steering wheel.
I am working on refinishing an OEM steering wheel and am going to paint it but I am not sure which color would have been original to my truck. The wheel that came in it was not the original. I have black paint but I wanted to check before I screw it all up

For most all it was Interior color unless a tilt was ordered. Tilt always got black. Unfortunately someone else will have to chime in on the Highlander specifics, I don’t know definitively there but do believe I know the answer.

My dash pad is black and I have tilt. Is the tilt wheel listed on the SPID or was it part of a package.

Re: What determined steering wheel color on '72 trucks
I’d pretty definitively say black is correct then.

Re: What determined steering wheel color on '72 trucks
All Highlanders came with a black steering wheel, black dash pad and black carpet and your truck with the YG8 Highlander Package should have a tilt steering column as well.

Re: What determined steering wheel color on '72 trucks
tilt would be listed on the SPID. Highlander had three "Groups" to chose from - so the SPID would have something on the lines of "Promotional" as the basic Group A carrying the known features like plaid seat, special hubcaps, chrome front bumper, upper body side molding, door edge guards and below eyeline mirrors. Next, Group B would have the THM transmission listed, the tilt listed and power steering listed. Group C would then have all the previously mentioned and add aircon and softray glass.
