Which upper trim push in clip?

I find 2 different push in clips for the upper molding. Any input on which is best? What have you used?

Re: Which upper trim push in clip?

I needed a few of those clips and apparently Classic Industries only sells the whole kit so I got quite a few leftover of the bottom ones. If you need a few, shoot me a PM and I'll send them out.

I initially purchased the top ones and didn't find out I had the lower ones until I got home and saw they weren't right. Ended up exchanging them.

So the top ones won't work? I have some of the lower picture, but they don't look like originals. Don't look too sturdy.

Not sure, I saw that they were the wrong ones so I didn't even try to use them.

Re: Which upper trim push in clip?

its hard to tell by the low quality image, but the shape of the ones at the top are used where you can access the backside as you have a nut to twist on to secure it (they also have a rubber grommet to prevent water from entering and reduce rattling against the metal hole. the bottom is used for locations where you cannot get to the backside easily (perhaps the rearmost ones of the front fender - but I think they're really designed for the bed trim) - this is the spring clip so you simply push it in and it self secures without the need to get to the backside where its to tight to get your hand. Some people complain about these as it can cause your trim to rattle (probably because they drilled the hole too big). Theoretically, you can use all of one or the other.

I can't guarantee LMC got it right, but here's a diagram of which clips they'd sell you and where to put them

Here's a better picture. I don't know which would be better. Guess I'll order a couple of each and try them on a piece of sheet metal with my old molding. The one with the skinny post looks flimsy, but that's the one Mar K supplied.

Yup, that's the one I thought - the spring clip. I'm not sure why you think it might be flimsy. These moldings are super light and don't need much to attach them. they both secure to the backside of the trim the same way, so it's about your preference on getting it attached to the sheetmetal...tight space in back or that you can get behind there easily. FYI, I think the spring clip is more robust than the dinky nut and thread of the other - but the latter will be able to "synch down tighter" because of that nut

Misunderstood. I think this one is the flimsy one. It's included in most kits and is included in my Mar K kit.

The clip for where I needed it is correct on the diagram for whatever that's worth.
