Need Hints for Pulling Windshield
I found the Paul's article on pulling windsheilds, but it was unclear.
What is the easiest way to pull a windshield by myself without chiping or cracking the glass? Thanks for any tips!!!! The old wire and handles trick looks impossible because of the dash? |

take a real sharp razor or carpenters utility knife, and cut the gasket. It should almost fall out after that.

YES !!! The only sure way to do it at home !!!! The only other way that has been successul for me is to get a couple of helpers, Two with tennis shoes and two with flat tools, The two with tennis shoes sit on the seat and push evenly on the windshield with their shoes, ( reason for tennis shoes) and the other two work the gasket with your flat tools, starting at the top and working outwards and then down the edges. You will probably break more then you will remove successfully.. I dread removing curved glass... Flat glass is much easier, but I have broken them also when getting in a stupid hurry.. |

IMO on this one I'd call somebody to come take it out for you if you wanna reuse it especially if you'd never did one before. I"d rather pay the money for somebody to get it done right than me break it and get all pissed off at it.

If a glass man comes to the house and removes it and it breaks all you'll get out of it is a bill for removal and a TS slip --might as well take the chance yourself

Longhorn Man was right!
It is a snap......just did mine this morn. Used a utility knife w/ a new blade and cut the gasket from the outside..........less than 15 min.......really more like 5 min......done, no prob.........on a Blazer w/ the top off, it is easy because you can just reach over the top and grab the glass from the middle..........on a pu you might need a hand....... Thanks Longhorn! |
