AM Radio Problems

I got an AM Radio today. It lit up and made noise for about 5 seconds then died. Checked fuse panel and the fuse is still good. I have power to the end of the red wire in the harness.
Any ideas on why it died on me???

Try hooking up a temp. speaker to see if the problem is with the radio or speaker. You may have blown it if it was old and crusty.

Nroden, check your ground

Mtdave, check the continuity of the antenna. Thats what the problem with mine is.

Isn't the ground the speaker? What could go wrong there?

Hmm I though the radio was grounded with the strap that supports it on the back but now that i think about it might have the ground in the harness. Anyways the ground could be bad. Try wiggling it around.

I will have to mess with it some more tomorrow. i never had the radio in dash. just had the wires sticking out the opening and hooked up to the back of the radio.

I got it to work today!!! First of all I found out that the radio IS grounded by that strap. (Thank You Gee) I guess yesterday when I started it i had it up against the AC controls. Today I sat the radio on top of a crate which I sat on top of the hump. Then I plugged in the harness and ran a wire from that strap to the igntion key (makes a good ground). It lit up but no sound. So I went and got another cheapy speaker thats been laying around and hooked it up to that. It came in loud and clear (my new telescopic antenna may have helped. I set my 5 presets (all to country) Now I am gonna have to figure out how to remove the dash speaker so I can figure out whats wrong with it or get a new one.

I just love the AM in my 69, its more relaxing or something then listening to FM. I guess the fact that I only have one decent station to choose from helps, no flipping to find better music.
