GEEZ what a PITA!
<rant>
My brakelights were staying on all the time,and I had to pull the pedal up to shut them off.So today I set out to fix it. Geez that switch is nearly impossible to get to.I dropped the column and almost had enough room to work.It took me nearly an hour to swap that little bugger.Glad it's fixed,but what a PITA I don't know what they were thinking mounting that thing up under the column that way,I'm just glad they hardly ever go bad. </rant>

On my old truck i would have to spray the brake pedal down with oil from time to time or it wouldnt come all the way up.

Yeah i eventually took it apart cleaned the 30 year old caked up mystery material out of there and greased it up so now its pretty smooth on the return I think the spring may have been weak so i replaced it as well.

Mine was loose.The switch was turning sideways and missing the stop on the pedal.So when I got it apart I found the stem was stripped and had to be changed.
Character eh.Well I don't want any more for a day or two:p

Hate to show my stoopidity... I actually managed to install that switch upside down!!!
In my defence, it was a spell from removal to installation.

Well, I grew up in SW MO and, when I was a kid, my dad had an alternative fix for this.
We had a 53 Plymouth 4-door, 3-on-the-tree. The clutch pedal would not return all of the way. So, dad wired (balin' wire, of course) a screen door spring to it and to a point up the steering column to pull it up. The car is still sitting in the pasture on the home place, with the spring still on it, after 30 years. |
