Rough Country - Idiots or No

I just recieved my lift from Rough Country. It was to be a 4" all spring lift. First they told me that they have a glossy black finish. "The best in the industry."
That may be if they were shipped neatly, but these were shipped completely unwrapped. No paper, no boxes, no protection at all. You can imagine the condition after UPS slung them around the country. Rough Country at that. The finish is nothing to brag about anyway.
Then I recieved rounded u-bolts for the front and squared bolts for the rear. The box for the rear states, "universal rear bolts."
When I called Rough Country, the tech dude says, "69 to 72 trucks take square bolts on the front axle." "You have a 10 bolt up there."
I replied, "No, I have a Dana 44 8 lug 3/4 ton axle up there. It takes the rounded bolts and three are short and one is longer for the diff. housing."
He said someone changed my front end. It should be a 6 lug, 10 bolt.
Then he tells me that the rear could be either round or square. "Do you know how easy it would be to put an 1985 10 bolt in there?"
I do not think they know these trucks at all.
I hope that I am just an isolated case. But beware. Ask lots of questions if you order from them. Davy was my salesman. Maybe someone else is better.
Guess I am headed to the local shop to get my u-bolts.

Keith, I remember you saying how much you liked yours and that was a large part of my decision to buy from them. And as I say, maybe this is an isolated case. Just seems like life deals me a lot of isolated cases if you know what I mean. LOL
They have agreed to send me "the correct" bolts at no charge. The salesman still says that I am wrong but he will send them to make "me happy."
I will be happy when they fit.
I am working on the rear tank swap, front 1 1/4 sway bar, skid plate additional crossmember, towing reciever and a couple of other things before the frame can go to the blaster and paint.
I want all frame mods done before the paint. No cutting after.

Sounds like Davey came from Taco Bell I think in order to actually be a "Tech" you should be required to have so many hours hands on before they let you talk to someone who is trying to get the right parts to fix thier truck.
I know I have waited on the right parts an extra 3-4 days so they could "make me happy" but I assure you after the mix up,and the wait, and having to walk half a week because of them,I still wasn't very happy.
I wish they had a book for all the real people that know what it is to do a nice mod on thier trucks, and know exactly what they need, instead of some moron reading it off a computer.

I was just wondering if I owe them an apology or if I am right here.
Any squared bolts on these trucks? 1/2 ton or 3/4, front or rear? I don't know everything. But pretty close.

Kevin, the u bolts on the rear of my blazer and all the 69-72 4x4s I have had have been square, I did change a few of them to the 73 up round style so the u bolts would be up instead of down.

Hey, I caught that Taco Bell comment. I work there and I may be rude, but at least I'm considerate and I do do my job properly, which is something I can't say for many people. I've found when ordering parts, talk to as many people as possible first before ordering, to see what they think. THEN you show the order person just how stupid they are. I had to learn the hard way to only order from people who specialize in older trucks and know what they are talking about. Another guy I talked to mentioned a raw deal he got from Rough Country.

The rough country lift I put on my 71 had the correct u-bolts for the front(round) and square for the rear. I bought mine from JC whitney, but it was dropped ship from the factory. The springs were as you described but they went w/ fed-ex.

69GMC, no pics, only red X's.
Blazerman, any pics?
This is a truck that had a Rough Country lift installed. It was blocks in the rear and long ROUND u-bolts. The stock springs were broken so I decided to replace the entire setup. I figured my old front set looked as they did because of use and wear. The new ones looked slightly better but not much. Not like they bragged about.
With the rear blocks there is a plate above the springs for the u-bolts. Flat plate on flat springs. If the bolts were square, turned over, and bolted under the axle tube, what mounts under the tube?
They knew that I had a lift to start with and not the original setup. Their lift at that. I would assume that would make a difference to them. Or anyone.

Guess my confusion came from this ad, my conversation with him and the fact that I told him what I wanted, what I had, and he stated what they would send. I do not have the original parts.

i would avoid them altogether, they are very fitting of the name Rough Country. not for the terrain they let you tackle, but more for the ride they produce when you install them. i would look into Tough Country or BDS, they're the best riding lift springs on the market.

Every 4x4 GM truck I have seen has round front u-bolts. D60, D44 or 10 bolt. The rears are square 67-72. You can change to round rear u-bolts by changing the spring plates from the early style to the 73-up style. Alot of people do it because the rear axle tends to rust under the early spring plates and the bolts hang down on the square style. I still have the square style because I didn't want to buy u-bolts. ORD sells the later model spring plates. I did a 4" shackle flip for my lift, didn't have to deal with "Idiots" at the spring company. Cheaper too.

I know I'm always irritated by the finish and zero packing when I get my Skyjacker Softride springs. I've sent them two letters about it with no response. Good product but you can imagine after UPS or Fedex gets it to your house.

All is not good. They sent the wrong size.
Don't imagine a call would help now.
Anybody need some 1/2 ton bolts.
