Sport Bumper for 1971 Fleetside Question
My 1/2 ton 1971 LWB fleetside with coil springs has the original step bumper and auxiliary leaf spring option. I want to change the step bumper to a chrome sport bumper. My question is will the sport bumper brackets fit on the frame even with my auxiliary leaf springs ?
Also, does anyone have a decent used chrome sport bumper for sale in the Carolinas area? Thanks in advance for your replies.

good question
My 71 had the same set up. I ditched the auxiliary springs, but have yet to install a "sport" type bumper (or roll pan, still debating). My guess is that they should work together, but after looking at these pics, maybe they won't! Better measure some brackets and check the mounting holes.
If those aux leaf do-dads have been there since the truck cam off the line, watch out...they can be a BEAR to remove! I cracked a craftsman socket in half while "breaking" one of the nuts to remove mine. Fortunately the nut "broke" loose at the same time the socket broke! Even more fortunate, the socket was replaced at no charge.

I moved it there for weight transfer and to clean up things under the hood. I like to run the truck at the track.

Steve, scoot over to the swap meet in Charlotte and pick up a new bumper for around $120. Any dealer will have it as well as the brackets and plate housing asm. You don't need to remove the overload leaf springs----they are out of the way for the sport bumper mounting.
