removing the sticky crap under the pinstripes?

sorry for another question guys, ive been flooding the board lately but what i want to know is right now im removing the awful blue pinstriping on my 71, i did the tailgate tonight just to test the grounds, i used a heat gun and that got the stripes off no problem but in spots there is still the adhesive. is there a cleaner that will remove this sticky stuff without harming paint?

thanks in advance,

Derek

Goo-gone. It's some piss color looking stuff. It's extract from oranges. We took some bumper sticker off a buddys car and used the goo-gone to take off what glue was left from the stickers. Worked like a charm with some eldbow grease.

go to a paint supply store and buy (acryliclean) not sure on spelling but it will remove the glue without removing the paint.

wd40 has never hurt paint on any of them ive used it on. i guess if paint is real chalky it could change the color a bit not sure. after your done you could buff it out to help blend it.

I used a product called "Sticker Shock" that worked, from Pep Boys after trying just about everything else and I mean everything else.

This was for the big stickers that came on my Toyota.

It sounds like you are further along than considering this, but one of those air pinstripe eraser tools work great!

I got this one from Eastwood.com to do the pinstripes that are all over my van. It works great and is super fast.

Good Luck.

I know what you mean, one small set of stripes can be fun.

I got the tool cuz this van had 27 pinstripes (with three different sizes) on each side, all the way from front to back... the back had them and the front hood had six more. I "NEEDED" that tool

No joke... the person who decided conversion vans need that much vinyl should be flogged.

If any of you do any painting. WD-40 is terrible on paint jobs. Silicone and paint don't mix. Fish eyes!!!! If you have anything in the garage you plan on painting and it has had wd-40 on it. To include bare metal. Use mineral spirits or thinner to wash it down. If you are preping a truck for paint you should put any brand dish washing soap in your wet sanding water. It will cut and remove any waxes or silicone (wd-40,armor-all, Ect....) that have been used on the surface. Most body shops will have no wd-40 anywhere near the prep area of the garage.

I've used Fingernail Polish remover before even on plastic stuff. I even have used it on the windshields of plastic models too.
