Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
after looking through his gallery and reading some of his articles, i cannot agree with you more. He does some freakin awesome work.
I can only hope to some day be able to produce renderings half as good as what he has done. |

I was reading that one as it un-folded & agreed w/you 100%..... FWIW, I thought you were a stand-up guy w/how you handled it. I've never met either of you; but after reading through that, I would only care to meet one of you (even if he was only 50% kidding).

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Nathan i have a quick question for you about the Mustang II rack your kit was designed for. I know there is 2 different racks as we talked about it when i placed my order. Is you kit designed around the rack with the mounts being 16" on center apart? If not, would i use the offset bushings to make it work? Figured i would post here for people doing a search in the future.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Got my kit today and cant say enough about Nathan and the crew at Porterbuilt. From the first phone call till the delivery the service has been top notch. Did i mention the qualtiy of the work? The welds were so clean its a shame to hide their work. Thanks again!

You must have had a 'lazy' delivery driver... tracking showed it was on his truck for two days

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Here is a few mock up pics. Excuse the frame, this is what happens to POR 15 when you leave it in the sun for a month. Everything will be tore back down and powdercoated when the backhalf is done.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Looks good Brandon! I am attaching a pic that shows where the new hole for the lower bag mount will need to be drilled (the hole has not been drilled yet in this pic, but you can get the idea). The bag gets moved outboard about an inch-and-a-half from where 'stock' would have put it... that means a new hole in the lower arm. Set the suspension where it would be at ride height (more or less) and leave the lower bag mounting bolt out. Center the bag (it may center itself), take a sharpie and trace the lower bag plate, find the center of the circle you just made, mark the hole, and drill it! Make sure the steering stop does not rub the bag. There should be clearance. If it looks too close for comfort, remove it. The rack and pinion has an internal steering stop.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
I've got a suggestion for the guys using Strong Arms. I had a problem with the lower shock mount hitting stuff even at ride height (I've got bags and 2 1/2 dopped spindles). So I ordered a couple of lower shock mounts from ART and flipped them over. I'm not sure if this will be a problem with Nathan's crossmember or not, but it will be easier now, than after you bolt everything together.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Two questions... 1) are you going to lop off the original (bottom) bracket?, and 2) how close is the new bracket to the bag when deflated?

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
HartRod-
Funny you posted this up... I received a call from Air Ride last week informing me of their design change on the lower arm... they're flipping the shock mount from the bottom of the arm to the top... just like you've done. You were not alone in your clearance issues. I should be receiving a set of lower arms shortly so I can build upper shock mounts (that will work with their new design) for the Dropmember kit.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
It's finally on the ground. Rob thanks for the relocation of the shock bracket idea. Im gonna steal your idea and order those brackets too. Here is a few shots of it. These are my back wheels on the front since my fronts havent been narrowed yet. Specs are 29" tires, 2.5" drop spindles, Re7 bags and the drop member kit. Its about 1/2" off the ground with some weight on the front end, so i shouldnt have much trouble with some 27" tires up front.

Re: Dropmember in a 69 C10
Hey Brandon! Just curious on how much lift you are getting in the front because on how far the bag is mounted towards the spindel. Thanks Josh
PS. Your truck is looking sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
