Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Thanks Igotachevyor2. I hope to have a few pics up in a week or so of the finished engine bay with all of the chrome parts installed. I'm also going to do the wood stain and varnish on my bed myself. I'll get some pics up when completed. I'm doing OT this week and then I'm off next week. We'll see what gets done after honeydo's

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Just an update: I talked to my body/fab guy (Paul) today and it looks like Jan. '08 he'll be able to start back on the '54. That helps me catch up on my bills. We had a few things come up that weren't planned or budgetted for. I had 2 out of town/state, weddings I was in. My wife's '99 Tahoe was hit and is in the body shop. And I decided to get my sod and sprinklers in my backyard before the rain came. It looks like I just made it. It rained this morning. My wife and her St. Bernard are happy. It seems that if I balance the projects she stays happy. You know, "Happy wife, happy life."

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Nothing new to report on the truck(just wanted to give those of you following my build thread a heads up). I've really been considering pulling the plug on it for a while as it has been a strain on our finances thus a strain on our family life. Family comes 1st with me, so the '54 may sit a while until things calm down around here. I think I may have lost focus of things in my life with this build, so this new year, I want to prioritize things in my life and make some new goals. Sadly, the '54 may not be one of them. I will still be following your threads/builds, and posting occassionally. I will post some new pics as they come and will keep you all updated as I make more decisions. Thanks for following the thread and giving me help/advice/tips/suggestions/support. Daniel U

Hey Daniel,

I understand were your coming from. These projects can take on a life of there own and keeping your priorities straight with your family should always come first. Your project will be there when times right for you to start back up again and so will your family. So putting the project aside for now, sounds like the right thing to do.

That sounds kinda funny. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. Buyinbg grass just for the fiance. Better get the truck projects in the wedding papers if she wants "grass."

My wife wants a larger house, and my only requirement is a 3-4 car garage.

Outstanding. You've made great progress since the last time I was on. Looking very nice and your work is great. I notice several things that you did were the spittin' image of things I had done. Great minds think alike!
Hang in there, you'll get her done.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I have to agree with you 3100, I dig your quote "...drive them out of it!" I tire of people with a chip on their shoulder with a woe is me attitude. I am where I am in life because of God and this great country that's full of opportunity. Off my soap box and back on topic, cool 54 yourself. I'm going to be patient. I should talk to Paul soon about the future of the build, now or later.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

For those of you who have ever read the bible or believe in it's content, this just slapped me in the face:
Passage Luke 14:28:

“But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?"

Yeah, I did that with my '54! Kinda makes me feel stupid. Oh well, live and learn.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Daniel, Hang in there I have been working on my Camaro since 93. But that was kinda the plan all along. I told my wife that I probably wouldn't be able to do anything until the kids got older. I did buy parts as I could afford them and did a bunch of little things. Right now I am in the process of putting it together and once I get all the parts bolted on then I can do an assessment of additional parts needed. I know you will get it but the family is the most important thing. Give yourself some time to evaluate everything and then move on from there. Good luck and keep us posted.

Bernie

I myself am a Bible believing man and I know God speaks to use in his word, and it sounds like the Holy Sprit is talking to you. I know for me, when I was in the middle of my build, at times, it was all that consumed my mind and that is flat out not a good place to be, were it takes time away from God & your family. I commend you for putting God and you family above your build. God will bless you for that!

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Thanks Bernie and Cal. I look FWD to finishing this, but not at the cost of my relationships. God, family, friends, then me. This new year made me think about my direction in a bunch of areas in my life. I appreciate all of the support, help and understanding from all you guys. Thanks, Daniel

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I stopped by Paul's today and it looks like he can stay busy with other stuff until at least March right now(and he doesn't mind my truck in his shop). He did assemble the parts so he could move it around easier. I took a few pics for the junkies.

Looks like, from rough estimates, I'm around $2,500 to get it wired and fired and at least that much more to get the paint/body finished and out of his hair. Still need glass, interior, wheels/tires and stereo/alarm installed, but one thing at a time. Had some more unexspected bills pop up, so maybe by this summer we can get caught up?

Looks nice, They always look so much better assembled. It can be very depressing looking at a pile of parts.

It looks as though it is gonna be killer.

My '47 IH I started when I was 12 took me 8 years before I could drive it, killed me every day.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Thanks for the encouragement and the compliments. "All things in due time" I keep telling myself. I have to admit, I have an addiction to bowties. My brother just showed me a 2WD '68 sb fleet for $2k that has a 350SBC w/ alum heads/headers/350turbo. You always need a work truck, right? Wait, don't I need to finish the '54?

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I tried to explain that to the wife. She wants to know where I'll park it?!?! The IROC and Harley are in the garage leaving her Tahoe in the driveway. When the '54 is done it gets the garage. That'l put the IROC and Tahoe in the driveway. I would have to put anything else on the street. I've never been a fan of that. Espeacially on trash pick up day!
