Re: 59 Chevy Build
guess it has been a while since I posted an update...........had to go through 3 pages to find my thread........anyway, I took the truck for it's first maiden ride today and overall I was pleased with the performance. Anytime you build something like this you hear thousands of noises that may or may not be there. I did hear some abnormal noises and brought it back and lifted the front end and found some bolts that were not as tight as they should have been. Also, I figured that since it was up I might as well wire the rotor bolts together just for safety sake. I was happy that it never got above 187 degrees on the temp. I am now waiting for it to cool so I can set the timing.......

Re: 59 Chevy Build
Not trying to be an ass, little constructive criticism, but when u safety wire bolts, wire should NEVER be a straight shot between holes, always wrap them such that when the first loosens, it tightens the second one. If you question if its "wrapped" around enough, go to the next hole. That and it's better (more of a pain in the ass) to wire the whole ring of bolts together. HAHA sorry spent a year being safety wire ***** on a race team

Re: 59 Chevy Build
Well I have been driving my truck around for a few days and decided to pull it back in the garage and tighten up any loose ends. I found that the headers were not sealing correctly, called Sandersen and they told me to send them back and they will correct the problem. Then I decided that since it is down that I would install the Gear Vendors, overdrive/underdrive system. That has been ordered and I am awaiting it's arrival. The reason that I decided on that is due to it taching to high and I wanted to make it more economical for daily driving. I checked out the 700r4 route, but, I figured that a TH 400 with the Gear Vendors system is a more bullit proof system. I will post some pics when the parts arrive.

Re: 59 Chevy Build
I'm itchin to see the results of that. I've been dreaming of a gearvendors overdrive all winter. You going to do the install yourself or get a tranny shop to do it?

I spoke to the company and was told that it is a very "straight forward install"............with that in mind, I am planning on installing it myself......I am not at all proficient with trannys, but, this sounds like a very easy fit.......we will see. |

Re: 59 Chevy Build
Yes, thats the way I was leaning. From what I have found out, the worst part is getting the driveshaft shortened and re-balanced. Some vehicles have clearance issues with the floor/tunnel. I haven't checked mine yet, but plan to. But still, should be no big deal.
