Re: My 1965 build thread
It's been awhile since my last post. Had a little cold snap down here that lasted for a week. That's what I blaming it on, but the truth be told I got a little lazy. I did finally install my wood heater. I fired it up last night for the first time. It was a comfortable 72 at midnight.
I started to work on my dash again last night. I used coat hanger to make a pattern for my brace over the column. The final product is functional and I guess it looks ok. I've still got to patch the area where the old ashtray was.

Re: My 1965 build thread
First bit of color I got the dash sand blasted and picked it up today. Radio and AC control cutout. I still need to cut out for 2 eyeball vents in the center part of the dash and one on each side of the dash. I also have to figure out how I will mount the defrost vents. Sprayed the first bit of color on the back side of the dash. I really get motivated when I see some color.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I got the AC vents cut in.
I have a problem and I need your help. I need your opinion on which defrost vents I should do. I don't want to mount anything on top of the dash due to the look and all of the curves. This is the pass vent underneath the dash. It's not mounted yet, I've got to figure that out too. Here are the choices Choice#1: Small mesh type holes Choice #2: About a 3/8" hole in a row Choice #3: 2 slits I can't make up my mind. I appreciate the input

Re: My 1965 build thread
In my '63 it had very slim slits almost hidden by the windshild rubber. I'd go with a thin slit to make them almost non-visable.

Re: My 1965 build thread
59-60's had the defost vents in the dash trim, 3 long oval slots.IMO that would be the best look with this dash...
here is a shot, you can barley see them up by the glass: |

Re: My 1965 build thread
Just remember the smaller the hole the less of the flow however the pressure might a bit highter, but would cover less of the windshield.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Whatever you go with test it with the final air flow before you paint. It would suck to get it all together and find out you have a whistle because the the slots do not allow enough air to pass through.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I took today off in Honor of Veterans day.
Thanks to all that have served and paid the ultimate price. I had a goal today of getting my frame painted. First step was to figure out how to support it with minimal interference. I had to tie it off from spinning. Then the sealer Then the base PPG 301274 Then 2 coats clear. The pix don't do the color any justice. It looks awesome in person.
