I can't wait to start on the engine build for mine. The engine and transmission are the next on my to-do-list. Looks good.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I thought id update , i'll get picture up soon . The Darts turned out to be 68 CC chambers which is even better for what im doing . I got the cams changed and the heads on . Put a Weiand dual plane on it and almost got the 99 vortec serpintine drive on ( what a pain ) . I wish the heads were angle plug cause the headers cleared the plugs no problem with the angle plugs . Not so great with the straights . I also did the sway bar off a 89 suburban and found another trick that is not in the sticky . I mounted the sway bar inside the frame mount to accomadate the lower stance . I also mounted the power steering box to the frame , but have yet to work out the hose connections . My box is flare and the Vortec pump is o-ring . The return line can be fabbed up no problem . The supply is where im at a loss . I'll get some pics up in the coming days . Anybody have any ideas about the high pressure power steering hose then im all ears . Was thinking about buying a new on e for the box and having one built out of the two .

I'm no help for sure, but my vote is making one from the two. No headaches and the problem is solved.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I ended up using the new hose for a 71' C-10 . I bought a 3/8" steel tubing compression coupling and used a tubing cutter to cut the tube from the Vortec hose and attach it to the 71' high pressure hose . I actually fire it off for a second tonight and it sounds good . Im also looking for advise on a upper hose . Probably use a universal flex style for now .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
On the upper hose, are saying the upper radiator hose?
The parts supply house Matt and I go to will let us rummage through all the hoses they have, take them out side and visualize them, etc. You might try that and find something that works perfectly. BTW. I have heard that compression fittings will leak after a while. Flare is suppose to be better. ALSO the idea of cutting and connecting the hard lines was excellent. I was thinking of cutting the hoses and having them put together by a company that makes hydraulic hoses. The way you did it is much simpler, ie better. Lee

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I took some today , i'll get them up soon .
Quote:
I took the hose to the hydraulic shop to have them cut both hoses apart and install a new hose section and re assemble them . The guy told me if i use the coupling and it leaks bring it back and he'll build me the hose for free . The coulping is a steel tubingg coupling and the furrel is over 1/2" long . The compression nut is like 1" long . I marked everything where it needed to be as far as line up goes and tightened it in a vise . I think it will work , got my fingers crossed .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Sounds like that compression coupling will work great.
Could you use a clockable thermostat housing http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/4933/10002/-1 Might give you a better angle for the new hose. Glad to know your line of work. Now I know who to contact for my questions. I know you have nothing better to do,,,,,, but pics would be nice. Lee

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Hotrod, the the flare and oring fittings can be switched on the back of the PS box, so you can use the same hoses you used prior to the serp. setup. I removed both fittings, and put the flare on the back of a '94 ps pump to be able to use my same ps hoses. I dont know if the '99's are removable or not. but wanted to mention it.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Hotrod, that is one sweet truck you have built. Do you still plan on using the posi? and what gear ratio was that. I just read your entire thread so I had a lot to take in. If you dont use them would you be willing to sell? as long as it's 12bolt. I wouldn't mind checking out your ride sometime! And if you ever wanna build another drag truck I have a 93 s10 frame and cab I need to get rid of. It's sitting near Lee & Matts in Alba!

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
As an update , i have a bit of bad/ off topic news . 1.5 weeks ago i herniated (spl?) a disc in my lower back . I had surgury 5 days ago and all in getting better slowly but surely . The truck is sitting in the garage safe for now . For some reason i installed vortec style guided rockers with guild plates . They wont work like that . I bought full rockers and have them in the box sitting on the Camaro . Im searching for current photos now and will post somew soon . I will not make pinks in ennis , which was the highlight of my year this year . I also was trying to get the truck together and having a local "shoe" my truck . That didn't happen either .

Really sorry to hear about your back. Maybe you will be even better after you heal.
Both trucks will always be there when you are ready. Lee

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Sorry to hear about your back, I know the feeling. I have a torn and herniated disc as well. The motor is looking clean though. I know it sucks to wait on building your truck. But sometimes you can plan it better. PM me out the type of surgury you had.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I have pics of the 49' from day one . That truck will be with me for ever . I am hanging in there . I took 3 hours today and changed the primary jets from 66 to 72 that helped out alot . I can only work on it a little at a time right now , but it is running really good . I wish i could find a younger man that wanted to learn how to set up a rear axle , i have 3 that need done i just cant do it now . My son in law came over and drove it the other day . I think he was impressed with it .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I've set up plenty of OEM GM rears. Haven't messed around too much with aftermarket gears. If you need me to come out one weekend and help you out just let me know. I have a few big projects going on but I'm sure I can make some time if you need some help with something.
